We were lucky to catch up with Shann Watson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shann thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
After the effects of Covid, losing hours of work and not being able to provide proper childcare for my children, I decided to do what I’ve always dreamed of, starting a skincare business. As a result of a tremendous amount of research, Prissaholic was created. The idea behind these products was to create something that would not only smell and feel great, but would also provide relief for an issue I was experiencing, dry skin. Since I battled with eczema, I was motivated to finding a way to relieve the dryness in my skin and to make it softer. I would go to several stores for products the doctor recommended, but most of them never worked and they all had the same “plain Jane” coloring in their packages. I then decided that if I was going to start my own business, I was going to make my products more effective, noticeable and crafty. In addition to guaranteeing results, I wanted my customers to feel enthusiastic by allowing the vibrant colors to bring joy and happiness to their daily skincare routine.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Prissaholic is based out of South Carolina. We have been in business since January of 2021. We’ve built a small successful team with over two-seven extra-large sugar body scrub products. We’ve shipped to 47 states including Canada and Hawaii. We are now shipping internationally.
As a leading aromatherapy body scrub manufacturer, we produce products that remove dead skin, reduce hyperpigmentation, body acne, strawberry skin and soothe razor bumps, resulting in smoother, more supple skin. We use aromatherapy essential oils to relax the mind and enhance the body senses. Our products also help to reduce stress, anxiety, improve energy levels, and increase focus. We use natural ingredients such as essential oils, sea salt, shea butter and sugar to ensure a gentle exfoliation, that will leave your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Our mission is to make skincare fun, enjoyable and we are committed to providing our customers with high-quality, ethical products that will help them look and feel their best.
I am most proud of the growth in our company. Taking the time to do everything we have up to this point has been so worthwhile. It has enabled us to learn so much and to build a strong foundation for our future. We are excited to use our skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in the world.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
Our selling point is our online store and we participate in several pop-up events in surrounding communities. Although we would like to venture out to other platforms, we have had a more successful selling rate at our online store and in-person.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Everything we make is made within the company. It has taken tons of research, time and effort to craft our amazing formula. We have had our trial and error run, but overall it has been one of the most amazing experiences learning, navigating and pivoting to get the right consistency. It was important to us to be our own manufacturer so that way we know what’s in it, how to alter it, how to market it and most importantly, we know what our customers are purchasing. Besides, when you work hard for something or at something, it means so much more to you when you receive positive or negative feedback. If it’s positive, you know that you are going in the right direction but if it’s negative, you can alter it.
On this journey, I have learned the importance of measuring. When you are making any kind of product, measuring is going to be your best friend. A lot of mistakes I made in the beginning had a lot to do with measurements. If I could say to anyone looking to start a skincare business, I would say to them, do your research and most importantly, “MEASURE”.
