Shankh , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
This is a lifelong journey to bring awareness and generate respect, acknowledging a legitimate profession. Our society is gradually recognizing the importance and impact that the art of music encompasses in our daily lives. The collective as a whole is awakening to the potential and power that music, sound and vibration holds as a connective unseen force.
In 2023, global recorded music revenue reached a height of 28.6 billion US dollars, and global streaming revenues reached 19.3 billion. When reviewing these tremendous numbers, yet understanding the disparity between the creatives and the business, one can surely determine that there is largely an issue between understanding the professional value. At the grassroots level, our educational institution should develop their program with vibrancy and create better job opportunities. At the same time, the artist community also needs to be more conscious about realistically applying the practical business model. I know many institutions offer management courses for artists, but I still feel there is room for expansion. This knowledge can unite the artist community to fight against the unfairness of the corporate music industry. On the same note, I would like to request our community to intentionally accept the artistic profession and encourage the newer generations to follow their true passions, be it in the art of music, dance, painting, or any creative format. In addition, I hope to see the artist community being appreciated and supported in general and not be afraid to share their experience after witnessing creative expression through abundance and/or social media.
In the age of social media, I would like to see continued outreach and support through organic approaches that connect a sustainable ecosystem for musicians and advocates alike. In turn, I hope the artist will conceptualize the bigger picture and retain their power, not allowing the corporate world’s imbalanced approach to the concept of professional success.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I must say that I don’t have any regrets following this journey as an artist. Additionally, I feel that it is not enough to satisfy in one lifetime, so if there is a concept of reincarnation or rebirth, then I can say I would love to return as an artist musician and continue my pilgrimage. I am glad my heart brought me to this path and allowed my spirit to follow my natural calling. For the past two decades, I have been an artistic entrepreneur, a founder and director of a music school, a band leader of a touring world fusion band, and the CEO of a non-profit charitable foundation, yet, my most rewarding moment as a creative person is to see real human connection. Nothing compares to being on stage and seeing that people are subconsciously and physically tapping along with the music. In that moment, a full circle of human connection is made. Both all of their being and all of my energy are heart to heart and soul to soul, truly connecting to humanity; that is the greatest reward, fulfilling my powerful mission to unite the world through music and dance.
