We recently connected with Shankar Menon and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shankar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was growing up, the only two people I knew that had a musical passion were my mom and my uncle. Both of them showed me the importance of music and it’s impact for the world. I was always around carnactic music growing up. As I grew, I wanted to create my own path of discovery, living in California and learning about the different cultures of music here. It led me to creating something unique to my circumstances as I pursued further into my craft.

Shankar, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a creative from the Los Angeles area, I honestly try to stay open with my role in this world, I love trying different mediums of expression. Right now, it’s just music but I am working to try other avenues of art. I lived in California for most of my life and visit my homeland of India frequently, I try to use these experiences to forge something unique to myself and the world around me.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
What I love about our society especially at a time like this. All the knowledge is available right at your fingertips. The problem however, no one understands they can make a change at any moment. As an artist, we give the world our emotions and heart. As long as the people reciprocating respect the artist, we’ll be in a great place. I believe the people that own equity above an artist should help guide them so both parties gain something.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Honestly, I’ve thought about it but I truly love everything I am making right now. If I went back in time to fix the “mistakes”, who knows, we might have not got to this point. Everything happens for a reason, trust it, no matter how hard it is.
