We were lucky to catch up with Shanita Nobles recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanita, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I were to start over, I would start with a plan, I Jumped with no vision and learned from mistake. Truth is if I planned and asked questions life in photography would have been much easier, I would’ve saved money and time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was always obsessed with capturing photos of my friends, family, and random things around me since a kid, capturing memories that last forever felt like power in my hands. I started my first business as an Event Planner targeting children parties. After setup I would capture moments of the occasion, I knew how branding was important as an entrepreneur. I shared my photos with my client as well as social media. Soon request for portraits started to increase, I would always say yes to every gig, before I knew it, I was being called a photographer. My Hobby soon became my business I had no choice to build and grow as a professional. 2014 I started to believe I that I was professional and here we are years later my brand continues to grow.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
My Business paid for itself after making my first invest me, “My camera I had everything I needed, I didn’t have a laptop, I would load my clients’ pictures and family and friend house. I was working 9-5 so I was able to save and invest in more equipment for brand.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience from first impression and going out showing off my skills, I would select random people and network, from grocery stores to parks. People soon began to network for me, soon my business was booked and busy.
