Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shanita Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shanita, thanks for joining us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
I have experienced having a hard time getting friends and family to support my businesses. I don’t let that stop me from reaching for my goals. I once heard a millionaire say “Don’t worry about your friends and family supporting you, just focus on everyone else and make them love you and the rest will follow.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Shanita Brown and I was born and raised in Daytona Beach FL. I am the only girl of six children. Growing up I always wanted to work in the film industry as an actress and practice law. I was young so I always thought it was possible to have both careers if I wanted to. My mom taught us we could be anything in this world that we wanted to be. After getting a Master’s degree in law I searched for a job as a paralegal while getting ready to pursue my Juris Doctorate. At the time I had four young kids (2 girls and 2 boys) and was working two jobs. My oldest daughter was struggling in school with bullies so I decided to put her in modeling. In a matter of months we were traveling state to state working on movie sets with celebrities. The experience really boosted her self of esteem. I felt like I really did what I set out to do. After being her momager for so many years I started managing other people’s modeling, acting and singing career. I can honestly say I have given so many young women and men the confidence needed to love themselves. A few years later I launched the company Naturally talented Management Group after the experience with my daughter because I felt she was naturally talented. I have managed over 15 people under NTM Group. In 2013 I launched a clothing brand called Dice Life Clothing. The brand represents even though life can be hard you still have to roll the dice of life and keep going. The website is dicelifeclothing.com. We sell t-shirts, hoodies, tanks, hats and more. We are on all social media platforms. Throughout the years I have been on many movie sets. In 2021 I submitted my first short film written and directed by me to a film competition and it was accepted. It was placed in the finals and premiered at a movie theatre in Orlando, Fl. The short film is called “Mine Since Birth.” Since then it has been chosen as a semi-finalist at the Orlando Urban Film Festival and will premiere in September. I just finished filming my second film that was also chosen for a film competition. It will premiere at a theatre in November 2022. My goal is to have a movie or series on a major network. In 2023 I am launching a film and production company. You can stay up to date through my website listed above. I offer scriptwriting and directing services for prospective filmmakers. My website is http://www.shanitaabrown.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Non creatives may struggle to understand why I highlight or post my accomplishments and am always positive. They may look at it as bragging. I look at it as focusing on the positive things in life. No one’s life is perfect but when you focus on the negative it consumes you and your life. I am a firm believer that we as the people have the power of the tongue, meaning we speak things into existence. And by believing that theory you why not speak good things into your life. I will never highlight the bad things in my life. So to anyone watching my social media or website just know I speak positivity, growth, wealth and good health into my life and everyone else. All love!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal that drives my creative journey is to create movies of all genres with no limitations. Black Filmmakers are not limited to a certain kind of film. We can create much more. We are inventors, creators, geniuses, educated, and more. Working in Hollywood I’ve also noticed that some directors and DP’s have a difficult time capturing the definition and true color of a darker shade of AA skin tone. My goal is to master that task to show the beauty we hold. Being a dark skin AA woman in the industry I have been faced with that challenge when acting in films. Trying to shine the light in the right area to be able to see what I truly look like.
