We recently connected with Shanik Hughes and have shared our conversation below.
Shanik, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In this interview, I will take you on a journey through my life – a life defined by risks. From moving to a different country at the tender age of 12, to choosing a career path with no certainty, risk has been my constant companion.
Throughout my journey as an artist, I’ve embraced risk in every step. From portraying diverse characters in various movies, spanning musical theater to soap operas to film, I’ve dared to explore uncharted territories.
Now, I find myself at another pivotal moment, where I am taking the risk of a lifetime. Instead of waiting for someone to sponsor or believe in my dreams, I’m choosing to take charge. I’m going for what I love and what I’ve dreamt of my entire life, regardless of the uncertainty.
My music is the vessel through which I hope to touch people’s lives and decorate their homes like cherished artwork. This path is filled with uncertainties, but I believe that taking risks is essential for growth and fulfillment.
My journey has been colored with both successful decisions and challenging mistakes. Each of these experiences has been a crucial part of my learning process, teaching me valuable lessons about perseverance and resilience.
With each new genre I explore and every music video I create, I’m reminded of the power of taking risks. I embrace the uncertainty, for it pushes me to grow, evolve, and connect with my audience in profound ways.
Through this interview, I hope to inspire others to take risks, to pursue their passions without fear, and to find beauty and meaning in every twist and turn that life may bring. Embrace the journey, embrace the risks, and watch as life unfolds in beautiful and unexpected ways.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Shanik Hughes, and I am thrilled to be share with you all today about me. My journey in entertainment began at an incredibly young age – at just 3 years old, I started my career shooting over 50 commercials in Mexico City. Since then, I’ve embraced various forms of storytelling, transitioning into soap operas, film, and theater, and honing my craft through studies in LA, New York, and Miami.
Returning to Mexico City, I had the chance to participate in a reality show where we competed in acting, singing, and dancing. As the second finalist the name of the show is “Protagonistas” de Univision and was shot in Miami Fl. I cherish the experience and growth it brought to my life. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned the value of resilience and how life often brings us back to fulfill our passions and dreams, no matter the obstacles we face.
What I’m most proud of is the person I’ve become along the way. Despite times when I felt like giving up, I persevered, and each challenge only strengthened my commitment to my art. My music serves as a mirror reflecting our deepest joys, hurts, and uncertainties, transcending social media trends in search of a greater spiritual connection.
Every lyric and music video holds a purpose, carrying a meaningful message that extends beyond myself. I’m here to serve and inspire through my work, sharing the profound emotions and experiences we encounter in the world.
One aspect of my work that brings me immense joy is working with children. I love conducting workshops, summer camps, and teaching acting, singing, and dancing, along with casting techniques and voice lessons for children, teenagers, and adults.
For those interested in my services, whether it’s booking me for events, parties, or hiring me as a host, public speaker, or singer, you can easily reach me through my website at shanik Hughes .com. You can schedule appointments, make payments there as well. And as the right opportunity arises, I may consider venturing back into acting.
Thank you all for having me here , and I look forward to sharing more of my journey and passion with all of you.”
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Supporting independent artists is crucial for our growth and success, as they don’t have the backing of major record labels. Here are some impactful ways people can support independent artists:
1. Save and Share: Adding their songs to playlists on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube, and sharing their content with friends and family helps increase visibility and reach a wider audience.
2. Venue Support: If they own businesses such as restaurants, clubs, or other venues, playing the artist’s songs can introduce their music to new audiences and create exposure.
3. Networking and Connections: Introducing the artist to relevant contacts, such as media outlets, interview opportunities, or magazine features, can significantly boost their visibility and create more awareness.
4. Financial Support: Making donations through platforms like PayPal or Patreon can provide artists with much-needed financial assistance to continue producing their art and pursuing their passion.
5. Social Media Engagement: Following the artist on various social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, and actively engaging with their content helps increase their online presence.
6. Booking for Events: Hiring the artist for classes, workshops, schools, or non-profit events not only supports them financially but also allows them to share their talent and expertise with others.
7. YouTube Views and Subscriptions: Watching their videos on YouTube, subscribing to their channel, and leaving positive comments can boost their visibility and help attract more audiences.
8. Word of Mouth: Spreading the word about the artist’s work and sharing their content with enthusiasm can encourage others to discover and appreciate their art.
9. Respect for Artistic Freedom: Recognizing that independent artists have full ownership of their art and respecting their creative choices without imposing outside influences.
10. Long-term Support: Continuously supporting the artist over time and staying engaged with their journey can make a lasting impact on their career.
Remember, every little act of support counts and can make a significant difference in the life and success of an independent artist. It’s a collaborative effort between the artist and their audience to create a vibrant and diverse artistic landscape.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
.As a survivor of child abuse, I have a deep-rooted passion to create positive change for those affected by domestic violence. My main goal, before I leave this earth, is to start a non-profit organization that rescues children and women from the horrors of domestic violence. This mission is something that stays with me day and night; I can’t shake the memories and the empathy I feel for those who have suffered like I have. Especially when I see children on the streets, begging for resources, education, and love, it only strengthens my resolve to make a difference.”
“I envision shelters and safe havens where these vulnerable children and women can find refuge from abuse and trauma. Collaborating with government agencies will be essential in ensuring that we can provide them with the support and care they need to heal and thrive. These victims deserve a chance to be safe, to rediscover their strength, and to reclaim their lives.”
“But I must not forget that there’s another group of individuals who often go unnoticed and marginalized – the elderly. In Mexico and South America, many elderly people are forgotten by society, struggling to find employment and receiving minimal social security benefits. They become the silent, neglected souls that we can’t ignore.”
“My non-profit’s mission is not just about rescuing and providing shelter; it’s about making a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by domestic violence and empowering the forgotten elderly. I want to create a world where everyone, regardless of age or circumstance, feels valued, safe, and cared for.”
“I am fueled by my personal experience and the desire to break the cycle of abuse. This is not just my dream; it’s my purpose in life. I want to leave a legacy of hope, compassion, and transformation. And I know that with the support of others who share the same vision, we can create a brighter and safer future for those who need it most.”
“Through this non-profit, I hope to shine a light on the issue of domestic violence and elder neglect, to raise awareness and bring communities together in the fight against these injustices. I believe that every child and woman deserves to grow and thrive in a safe and loving environment, and every elderly individual deserves to be respected and cherished for their wisdom and contributions to society.”
“I invite anyone who shares this passion for making a difference to join hands with me, to support this vision in any way they can – whether it’s spreading the word, offering resources, or contributing to this cause. Together, we can create a world where no one has to endure the pain and suffering of abuse or loneliness, and where everyone has the opportunity to live a life of dignity and fulfillment.”
