We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shanice Jenkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shanice , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Coaching is something that God honestly brought to me. I remember this idea came to me when I was about 15 years old. All of my friends were talking about what college they were going to when they grew up but all I could recall is the vision God showed me. I would be speaking to other women and helping them launch businesses and grow in faith. I saw it so clearly, they would be starting businesses, I would pray with them, and show them what to do. Of course at this time I had no clue it was called coaching, I didn’t even know coaching was a thing. I thought it would be counseling so I started going to school for psychology, working my corporate job and hosting empowerment events on the side. My women’s empowerment event went from an annual event to a semi annual event to a monthly virtual reoccurring meeting about business and faith. Exactly what I saw at 15. While hosting these events I got a call to bring my event to a different city and I was led to tell the lady my vision about how I wanted to create a business helping women build businesses and grow in faith. She said you want to be a coach! Just so happens she had a life coach certification school. A days later I enrolled and became a life coach. Every client I worked with after that asked how could they start coaching too, a year later my coaching program was birthed. Now I’m living in that little 15 year old girl’s vision. Helping women create 6 figure businesses & grow in faith!
Shanice , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What really made me take coaching more seriously is missing my daughters first steps while I was in a corporate meeting. I really decided to take my financial independence seriously because being a present mom and wife is super important to me and I wanted to help other corporate moms do the same. I help corporate moms and coaches package their expertise into a high ticket coaching program and hit 10k months in 6 months without sacrificing their presence in their homes. What makes me proud is when my clients are able to have more time with their children and families while still hitting their financial goals by leveraging the skills they already have and the information they already know into a coaching program.
I think a lot of people get intimidated about building an online coaching business but we have truly simplified the process for our clients. You don’t need a huge following, you don’t need previous coaching experience, you don’t need to be super tech savvy. What you do need is a passion for people, a skill or experience to monetize, and a passion for financial independence. We help our clients with everything else!
We’ve had clients hit 10k with less than 5,000 followers. We’ve had clients go into coaching full time! We’ve had clients cut back their hours in their corporate jobs because of their coaching programs. That’s why I do this!
I genuinely love to see women win, I believe that’s why God put me here! Coaching is the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One major lessons I’ve learned in building my coaching business is, it’s not necessary to reinvent the wheel.
When I first began building my business I had a “I can do it by myself” attitude! Boy was I wrong! It was so difficult navigating an industry I knew nothing about on my own. I realized that it didn’t make sense to reinvent the wheel. I needed to become the student and learn from someone who had already been where I desired to go. So I invested in my own coach who had already successfully built a coaching business and was able to hit my goals faster. The thing about it is you never know what you don’t know until someone exposes you to something new. If I had remained stuck in my ways and allowed my “I got this” ego to hold me back from investing in myself I would still be stuck trying to figure it out.
Second big lesson is invest higher sooner. Not only was I scared to invest I was also cheap! Cheap is not always going to get you the best results and I learned that the hard way. The coach that really had the answers I needed was a $10,000 investment. I was so focused on finding the “cheaper” route that I didn’t focus on giving my business the best experience. Instead iI invested 5K into a different process that did not help me at all. It was a bad investment and I was so upset with myself because my gut told me who to go to but I allowed price to turn me away. I turned around and invested the 10k and boom I hit 6 figures!
The major lesson for me was invest higher sooner because cheap will always compromise the quality of the experience and you’ll end up spending more later. Make the right investment the first time!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

The best part about it all for me though is that I kept going even after the bad investment, the disappointment I didn’t allow it to deter me from growing my business and investing in myself .
