We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shania Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shania, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of my favorite projects took place in 2019. I went to Europe and shoot for the Homeless World Cup. It is an organization that uses football to tackle homelessness and social isolation. We were there to follow selected players and capture their stories. I was assigned players from Pakistan and South Africa. The week with them gave me a better appreciation for their culture.
My favorite part of that project was my third day there and it was raining and we were all waiting inside a huge tent when someone decided to play music. I got to witness 70+ countries come together and teach each other their cultural dances and songs. Especially in today’s climate, it was the first time I was able to see what the world would look like united.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My love for film started really young. As a child I would watch movies all the time. I would learn the lines and cadence of the actors and then perform them for my parents. It wasn’t until I got my hands on my first camera in high school that I fell in love with the ability to be able to capture the way I see the world. I went to college and took film and advertising classes. Before graduating college, I got hired at a creative agency where I started shooting for major brands and traveling the world. Throughout my career I’ve challenged where I thought I fit-in in the industry. Did I want to be a cinematographer? An editor? It was when I got to director my first music video that I knew I wanted to be a director.
In my business, Lilies & Sparrows Media, we specialize in human interest stories, event recaps, sports and photography. The problem that we want to solve is for businesses who do not have time to learn how to produce high-quality videos, edit them and then post it online. We work with businesses that are looking to grow their customer or community base while still keeping their current audience happy. They want to be able to reach, connect and engage with their audience in a simple and effective way.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Lilies & Sparrows Media future mission is to help lead creatives in believing and owning their own vision and to establish healing through creativity. We strive to help creatives create worlds and supply them with the right tools for what lives in their mind, to become reality. We believe in creative autonomy and want to create a place where that is accessible. We produce stories that start conversations, draw awareness and create change. Lilies and sparrows media mission is more than just creating award winning visuals, we are creating opportunities and possibilities for those who come after us. We are creating space.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There is something powerful in the fact that you can evoke emotions and make people think by conveying a message visually. I love what I do because I get to turn nothing into something and take fragments of a vision and make it complete. I love that millions can look at the same movie, photo, or any piece of art at different eras of time and have different or similar interpretations of what the artist was trying to convey. Visual creations will always be timeless.
