We recently connected with Shania Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shania , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
This one is hard because all my projects are very meaningful to me. I do everything from a passionate place so it’s kind of hard to just pick one but if I HAD TO pick, it would be the PLAY IN DALLAS Merch. I am the founder of a non profit organization called the PLAYHouse Foundation and PLAY stands for Providing Leadership Around Youth, the PLAY IN DALLAS Merch was the first thing I created to announce my organization and it represented everything my mission stands on. Providing Leadership Around Youth in Dallas Texas is BIG for me because I was born and raised here so I aspire to be that resource in the community for the next generation that I didn’t have growing up. It was amazing to be able to give them away and see the youth in my community wearing the shirts proudly.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Shania Brown! A 26 year old beautiful brown skinned girl from Dallas Tx who aspires to be staple among my community and not only in my city. My community is everyone who relates to me as well. Through my non profit organization, The PLAYHouse Foundation and podcast on YouTube, The P.O.P Show. I hope to encourage others to always know no matter what cards you’ve been dealt or what you’ve been through you can make whatever you want out of this life and don’t be afraid to follow your dreams! The vision behind The PLAYHouse Foundation came to me in 2018 but I had just graduated college and long story short that’s the part nobody warns you about lol. Through a lot of prayer, discipline and determination in 2021 I put some action behind my mission and started the P.L.A.Y Outside Program, which is one of the programs that promotes positive development for youth in our community through fun filled community events. While balancing life, working full time both at my 9-5 and The PLAYHouse, it got a little chaotic but on the other side of the chaos came The P.O.P Show. Which stands for Podcast On Purpose and it really just started off as an outlet for me to talk about my journey in a entertaining way but as I’m growing other people have wanted to join me. Being able to put my authentic self out there without fear is what I’m most proud of and what keeps me unique!

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
If you want to grow the community, water it! Pour in the resources to help us expand our knowledge, feed us more opportunities to share our creativity and shine the light on the seeds that’s growing!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Outside of helping others and receiving genuine support, for me personally, I use to keep a lot of my creativity in my head growing up because I thought my ideas were unrealistic. As I got older the saying one of my grandmothers use to always say, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Played constantly in my head reminding how rewarding it is to see what I then felt were unrealistic thoughts in my mind transform into something better than what I’d imagine
