Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shani Avidar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shani, thanks for joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
Imagine running a marathon without any training, only to be told at the finish line you need to start another one immediately. Exhausting, right? This is often the reality for new moms returning to work after maternity leave, juggling the demands of a newborn with the expectations of their corporate role.
Despite significant steps made in supporting work-life balance, Corporate America often overlooks a crucial element in the equation: the impact of sleep deprivation on new moms’ performance and well-being.
As a Certified Infant Sleep and Well-Being Specialist, lactation consultant, and mom to three little ones who spent nearly 20 years in the corporate world prior to becoming a sleep coach, I have a unique perspective on this issue. Lack of sleep affects new moms’ work performance, but there is something Corporate America can do to support sleep-deprived moms.
Sleep deprivation among new moms is not just a personal issue; it has profound professional implications. Lack of sleep can lead to decreased productivity, impaired cognitive function, and increased absenteeism. Imagine trying to meet a critical deadline while dealing with chronic sleep deprivation – it’s a recipe for stress and burnout.
Take Sarah, for example, a dedicated marketing executive and a new mom. Upon returning from maternity leave, Sarah found herself struggling to keep up with her workload. Her once sharp analytical skills were affected by sleep deprivation, leading to missed details and increased errors. The mounting pressure from work and home became overwhelming, causing her to contemplate leaving her job.
What Can Corporate America Do?

I offer corporate speaking engagements focused on infant and toddler sleep, tailored to support working parents. As a Certified Infant and Toddler Sleep Coach, I provide practical strategies and insights to help parents foster healthy sleep habits for their children. I am a Certified Infant Sleep and Well-Being Specialist, lactation consultant, and the founder of My Little Dreamer. Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One story that stands out in my journey, illustrating my resilience, is the transition from my nearly 20-year career in the financial industry to becoming a Certified Infant Sleep and Well-Being Specialist, lactation consultant, and founding My Little Dreamer.
During my time in the corporate world, I was balancing a demanding career with the responsibilities of being a mom to three energetic boys. The challenge was immense, especially when sleep deprivation became a constant struggle. Sleepless nights left me feeling drained, and I found it increasingly difficult to perform at my best both at work and home.
The turning point came when my firstborn was 6 months old, and I discovered the Baby Led Sleep Approach, an evidence-based method that offered an alternative to traditional sleep training. After implementing what I learned, my son began to sleep very well. This success was a game-changer for my physical and emotional well-being, especially since I had my kids back-to-back and was literally pregnant for three years in a row. By the time my third child arrived, I considered myself a sleep pro.
Inspired by this personal success, I realized that I wanted to help other families overcome similar challenges. However, making such a significant career change was stressful. Leaving behind the stability and familiarity of a long-established corporate career to venture into a completely new field required a great deal of courage and resilience.
I faced numerous obstacles along the way, including the need to acquire new skills and certifications, build a client base from scratch, and establish my brand in a competitive market. There were moments of self-doubt and setbacks, but my determination to make a positive impact on the lives of families kept me going.
One particularly challenging period was when I first launched My Little Dreamer. Balancing the demands of my new business with my responsibilities as a mother was incredibly tough. There were many late nights and early mornings, as I worked tirelessly to develop personalized sleep plans, conduct consultations, and provide support to my clients. It was exhausting, but I was driven by my passion for helping families achieve better sleep and well-being.
Despite the challenges, My Little Dreamer began to thrive. The positive feedback from families who experienced transformative changes in their children’s sleep patterns was incredibly rewarding. Clients shared how my personalized approach helped them establish a bedtime routine that finally gave the entire family a good night’s sleep. Hearing successful stories from clients reaffirmed my commitment and resilience.
Today, I am proud to say that My Little Dreamer has helped countless families achieve better sleep and balance in their lives. My journey from the corporate world to becoming a sleep coach has taught me the value of resilience, perseverance, and the power of following one’s passion. It is a testament to the fact that with determination and a clear sense of purpose, it is possible to overcome challenges and make a meaningful impact.
