Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shani . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Shani thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew at a young age I wanted to make music not just a part of my life, but the very essence of it. As I continued to fall in love with the art of music, I started to find my truest self, my most authentic expression, and my deepest sense of purpose. Raised in a household where music was celebrated and appreciated brought so much joy. My ma was a singer and church musician. She instilled this deep appreciation in our family for music’s power. Church was not just a place of worship but a sanctuary of melodies, a canvas where my musical aspirations began to take shape. Yet, it wasn’t solely within the walls of the church that my musical background flourished. Shows like 106 & Park, TRL, and more were not just a platform to see great performances and artist it allowed me to see the possibilities.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a southern girl, coming from a little town nestled in Alabama. Growing up, I was quite reserved, keeping mostly to myself. But once you cracked the surface, you’d find that I could be delightfully open and even a bit funny and animated. Though I am more than just music, it has profoundly shaped my creativity, influencing how I express myself, love, write, unwind, and even dress.
While I’ve lent my God-given gift in various ways and graced a few platforms and stages, there’s an unparalleled joy in creating, recording, and releasing my own music. Recently, I’ve proudly unveiled my debut single, “Suddenly,” now available across all major streaming platforms. I’m filled with excitement for what lies ahead in my musical journey.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I find the most fulfilling part of being an artist and creative is the ability to use what God has uniquely placed within me, give it life, and share it with the world. It’s not only another act of love, it’s a blessing and I’m deeply grateful.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A few years ago, I made a move to Georgia, driven not by a new job or opportunity, but by faith. Feeling hopeless with my situation in my hometown, I sought not just a change of scenery, but peace and a sense of purpose beyond my current circumstances.
During the transition, I didn’t have much of anything. Yet, looking ahead several years later, I find myself not merely surviving, but thriving. Stepping out of my comfort zone, I remained open to the belief that something greater awaited me. My decision to pivot and trust in God has served as a powerful reminder that doors will open when I align myself with divine guidance, even if not always on my preferred timeline.
Now, I stand in a place where blessings seem to unfold endlessly, and I am eternally grateful for the journey.
