We were lucky to catch up with Shaneque Irby recently and have shared our conversation below.

Shaneque, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?

I believe the thing that my parents did right was first bring me into this world. If they didn’t bring me into this world I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. I wouldn’t be that strong, independent female that has very strong goals, a bright mindset and want to make my parents happy and succeed in today’s world, my parents always told me to fight. And never give up and to always follow my dreams which is why I started my business CatchingTemptations. I feel like my parents were a major part in my success and the person that I am today been able to graduate college, been able to be on my own as an independent Adult, been able to achieve the goals that I have set forth for me to achieve, been able to just live life and do the things that I want to do. So me being a boss was definitely one of the major things that I wanted to do and to let my parents know that I can do everything that I dream and I always aim high never low. I remember when I was just a young little girl I used to sit and think I wonder what I’m gonna do when I get older I wonder if I’ll be a teacher or nurse a doctor working with kids working with animals you know? I never knew, but I did know one thing that I wanted to be my own boss, I’ve always thought I was the boss of everything growing up so this suits me perfectly.

Shaneque, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hello, My name is Shaneque a Country girl BOSS from South Carolina. My mom Brenda who I love and cherish so much, she is so strong she is my reason behind everything I do, my vision, and plan surrounds around my mom I just want to make her proud. I have an identical twin sister name tameka we call each other sissy’s. We have a bond like no other one minute we fussing then the next it’s all hugs. I love my sister so much she is the reason why I have this opportunity. We are Twin sisters for life and no one can change that. She an amazing Chef her business is called cupcake addicts and I wish her all the success in the world. I have an older brother who has served over 20 years in the military serving this country, what a HERO . I love my brother he put his life on the line everyday for America and I’m proud of him, he has never forgotten where he came from or his family. My dad just gotta love him he taught me all the things I needed to know to protect myself and stay humble. The Sky is the limit. Thank you for blessing me.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I remember when I first started to get my business together, and I was thinking to myself what and how I was going to fund my ideas, At the time I was living paycheck to paycheck but you have all these ideas that you’re wanting to use to start your business what are you going to use for finances? How are you going to buy supplies you know how are you going to promote and how are you going to market so all these things did come across my mind so I just started to hustle harder and figure out the game plan to get the finances to use to pursue my dream. So Save a little from each paycheck and even borrowed money from family and friends. To start up it didn’t take much so I was good. My first show I did it was a small pop-up vendor event, and I remember my table was very small. I only had a couple of items and I almost sold out of everything so with that I was able to make more money to buy more supplies to make more products and so it started that way.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Oh yes I can remember a couple of times to where I’ve had to pivot and my business has to suffer sometimes you can try and try to stay focused on what the bigger picture is. But Sometimes Life throws you curveballs and it’s up to you to be the strongest better version of yourself and you have to dodge those curve balls and try to stay on track.
I remember while having my business I was also in a very committed relationship that ended up toxic because dealing with a narcissist will really drain you and the relationship so I ended up being in a very bad break up and it interfered with my business in a major way because I lost focus and I let that situation of losing someone that was in my life for over an decade control my mind. But surly GOD alter that and remove all negative energies from me. So I definitely had to pivot with my business because of that and get my life back in order and heal from that situation but I did learn a huge valuable point do not ignore the red flags. Continue to stay focused no matter what you have going on or what you have to deal with within your life remain humble stay focused, knuckle down, meditate and keep your space grounded.
