We recently connected with Shanell Goring and have shared our conversation below.

Shanell , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

I first realized I wanted to pursue my therapeutic art company was when I during a community event that art is necessary outlet in our community.

I began doing public events only and there was something that just clicked and said I need to make this a business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I was born and raised in The Bronx, in my neighborhood we didn’t have artistic programs.

It was until I was in my thirties working in a career that I hate when I realized how much I loved art. Art helped me relax and think clearly. Sitting and creating made my life complete and I vowed to share that experience with the world.

Canvas culture llc LLC is rapidly growing and I can’t wait to see what 2024 will bring to us. We hope to one day have our own establishment where we can host artistic events and provide artistic programming for inner-city youth..

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One lesson that I had to unlearn is realizing that being strong and independent doesn’t mean that you have to work on your own. Understanding that you need a strong positive and productive team behind you is just as important as being the head owner of your company canvasculturellc would be nowhere without our amazing instructors and supportive staff who have helped us grow and provide one customer service to our private and corporate clients.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being an owner of a therapeutic art company, is watching my clients enjoy themselves as they are painting and or creating. We have gotten such a positive response from people even saying that they were depressed when they began, but they felt like a shift in their mood or their personality, while they were sitting in painting or creating, it brings me so much joy to provide art and a safe space for people to create .
