We recently connected with Shaneen Bonner and have shared our conversation below.
Shaneen , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Hello, My name Is Shaneen Bonner;
I started my brand with the idea of helping others. The moment I was in prayer, I felt the need to start a business that has become a brand.
My story began as a music artist looking for a record label to sign me to their label. That didn’t happen the way I planned it. When things didn’t come through, I decided to start my own independent record label, Decree Records.
When the record label became established, I started Decree Radio, an independent radio station for airplay and other independent artists trying to break into the music industry.
After that, I started Decree Entertainment Magazine to promote and expose artists.
Now, I have entered the film industry with our new documentary, From Homeless to Hollywood, produced by our film company, Decree Film Entertainment.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Shaneen Bonner. I’m an entrepreneur, Screenwriter, author, and Two-Time Grammy Considered music artist with several awards to add to the success of my career.
What sets me apart is the excellence I bring to the industry. I put God first in everything I do to bring a level of success and happiness to people.
I went through several years of homelessness, so I know what it takes to start from the bottom, work your way to the top, and remain humble and sincere to the call.
I’m most proud of how God has used me in this aspect of my life to become the person I am today.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My story of resilience is that I traveled from Flint, Michigan, to Los Angeles, California, to do missionary work. When I arrived in Los Angeles, I couldn’t even imagine the next phase of my life—homelessness.
I lived in an abandoned house without water or heat. I didn’t have any clothes because the bus station misplaced my clothes while I was traveling from Flint to Los Angeles. I had no money or resources to start me off in Los Angeles. I only had faith in God, which was all that I needed. I tried getting a job, but no one would hire me. I felt like I was living in a third-world country, but I was living in one of the wealthiest states in the USA. I would say this quote: This isn’t my promised land; it’s my problem land.
I genuinely believe it was my testing period to test the resilience that God has put in me and the endurance power that God has installed in me so that I can continue to persevere in my purpose.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn is the lesson of complacency. I felt a sense of security and wasn’t aware of the storm ahead of me at that particular time in my life.
I was unaware of the danger of homelessness. When I lived in Michigan, I was comfortable where I was. I owned several businesses, and I was doing fine. Then, I received my commission from The Lord to go to Los Angeles. That moment changed my life, and I had to learn the lesson of how to survive less when God is trying to create you for the best.
