We were lucky to catch up with Shanea Rakowski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shanea, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
I can’t believe it has already been over 6 years of writing Shanea Savours. I’ve always been a food enthusiast, enjoyed traveling and cultural experiences. I started writing lists and suggestions for friends about where to eat, shop, and visit on their travels. A dear friend said I should write a blog since I love to share my experiences. I had no idea how to even set up a blog so she recommended a lovely lady who helped set everything up for me and ShaneaSavours was born. It also helps that I have had lots of encouragement and supporters. I write impartial and honest weekly reviews on restaurants from my home town of Toronto to my second home of Miami and everywhere I love to travel. Restaurants have been hit hard in the last few years due to the pandemic and I like to encourage my readers to support and visit my recommendations. I will continue to explore and be inspired by kitchens around the world and share my finds with you. I will report on hotels that I have enjoyed staying in, and share my love of art I discover along the way. When you have a passion it is much easier to explore it, write about it and share it with others. Food is my fashion, my passion, my love. I want to share my fondness for all things I savour and in doing so, I hope to make you smile, dream and drool.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My blog is called Shanea Savours. I feature dives to fine dining, street art to private art exhibitions, boutique hotels to grand dames, farmer’s markets to gastronomic food halls. I write a weekly food blog as well as post daily pictures about my food and travel experiences. I am a Canadian and focus mainly on my hometown of Toronto, and my second home of Miami. But, I travel frequently and nothing is off limits for me. My love of food has led me here, to share all things I savour. I will continue to search out the best and most impressive restaurants, food delivery , art, hotels, and current trends. It has been an honour, a challenge and pleasure to explore these things for you my readers.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My blog has grown organically over the years. I have followers from all over the world. I believe it has grown through word of mouth and from people who share my passions. I continually try and explore new establishments at all price ranges so there is something for every taste and pocket book.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I never heard of an NFT until a month ago when my sons friend introduced me to the concept of a digital piece of art that you can take with you everywhere you go. They seem to be getting increasingly popular and people are buying and selling them like crypto currency. Call me old fashioned but I love physical art that I can touch, smell and admire on my wall or table, however I did give up buying books and I love my kindle reader. It may be worth investing a small amount to try out. But I don’t know enough about the risks. I still think I will stick with art. Traditionally art hold its value and may increase in value over the long term.. But honestly when I buy art I am not thinking of it as an investment but rather something that will bring me constant pleasure.
