We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shane McCormick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shane below.
Shane, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I genuinely hope my images can be looked at for generations. I have always seen myself as more of a historian than an artist. Though as time goes on, that changes more and more each day. I want to create things that make people feel real emotions. Things my loved ones can be proud of.
Shane, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a photographer that specializes in music and portraiture photography. I have recently been on tour across Europe and North America with Marc Rebillet. I have been shooting for almost 17 years with experience in film, TV, print, and the music industry.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have spent years building a portfolio that I feel speaks for itself. Of course, there is always more to learn and I will continue to strive for bigger, better, and more creative outlets. I’m above no type of work that allows me to do what I love to do. But this industry I incredibly difficult to break into. I have spent many a night eating ramen noodles scrolling craigslist for photo opportunities. Those days are in the past and I make a good living doing what I love, but the trauma of not knowing what jobs I have in the future is very much still with me. As is with all freelancers, I think it’s important to remember when you’re about to give up and throw in the towel, Thats when you’re the closest to achieving your goal.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The freedom to work with who I want. I’m my own boss and I choose when I work. If I want to take a month off and dive into a new body of work, usually I can. Also meeting other creatives and being around like-minded professionals is always amazing. I draw so much inspiration from my peers.
