We were lucky to catch up with Shane Foster recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shane , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
One belief I hold, which many in digital marketing for entertainment may disagree with, is that data-driven decision making has its limitations. While the emphasis on analytics, metrics, and KPIs is undeniable, over-reliance on this data can stifle creativity and innovation. Digital marketing, especially in the entertainment sector, thrives on captivating and engaging audiences in unexpected ways. Sometimes, the most effective campaigns are born from creative intuition and risk-taking rather than strict adherence to data forecasts. Balancing analytics with creative freedom can potentially lead to more memorable and impactful marketing strategies.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For folks who may not have read about me before, let me introduce myself. I started my journey in the entertainment industry after serving in the military. Once I completed my service, I moved to Los Angeles, CA, and attended the LA Film School, which is recognized as one of Billboard magazine’s top schools for entertainment. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and had the opportunity to intern and work with prestigious companies such as Def Jam and Live Nation/Ticketmaster in their marketing departments.
In 2018 formed DFD ( Davis, Foster, Davis) Music with my partner Davis Chris, we are more than just a music marketing and production company; we are a team of dedicated professionals and Recording Academy Voting Members who have been a part of The Grammys and The Dove Awards. Our proficiency spans across various genres including Gospel, Country, Blues, R&B/Hip-Hop, World, and Latin. We take immense pride in charting over ten records on Billboard in these genres and doing so in three different languages. This versatility is a testament to our commitment and passion for music. Our work has extended beyond just producing music; our tracks have illuminated the world of Radio, Television, and Film.
Our talented crew has made remarkable strides by landing music on over twenty Official Spotify Editorial Playlists, including the Spotify Global Charts. We have had the privilege of working with renowned artists such as Rick Ross, Iggy Azalea, Yo Gotti, BeatKing, Young Dolph, Sean Kingston, Boosie Bad Azz, Lehla Samia, Duke Deuce, and many more. But our collaboration doesn’t end here. We have also provided additional marketing and production services to numerous artists under renowned record labels including Live Nation, Roc Nation, Interscope, Def Jam, Empire, and many more.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One of the key factors that helped me build my reputation as a digital marketer within the entertainment industry is my commitment to staying ahead of technological trends and leveraging them creatively. By closely monitoring the evolving digital landscape, I have been able to implement innovative marketing strategies that resonate with target audiences. Additionally, my emphasis on building genuine relationships with clients and artists has fostered trust and long-term partnerships. My collaborative approach, combined with a keen understanding of the entertainment market’s nuances, has been instrumental in driving impactful campaigns that not only reach but engage audiences effectively. Finally, consistently delivering measurable results and adapting strategies based on performance data has reinforced my credibility and reliability within the industry.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me as a digital marketer has undoubtedly been referrals. Word-of-mouth recommendations have played a crucial role in expanding my client base. When existing clients are satisfied with the results and the personalized attention they receive, they are more likely to refer my services to their peers and colleagues in the industry. These referrals often come with a level of trust already established, making it easier to build strong, productive relationships from the get-go. Additionally, attending industry events and networking gatherings has also been invaluable, as these occasions offer the perfect platform to meet potential clients face-to-face and discuss how my services can help them achieve their goals.
