Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shane Atkinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shane , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media, but I do work with a video editor. I chose to handle it myself because I want to keep my connection with my audience authentic and personal. This way, my personality and values really come through in every post.
So far, it’s been a great success. I’ve built strong relationships and connected well with both new and existing clients. For other business owners thinking about managing their own social media, my advice is to be genuine and consistent. People can tell when you’re being authentic, and that builds trust. Also, working with a good video editor can help make your content look professional without losing that personal touch.

Shane , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Shane Atkinson, and I’m an Associate Broker with Good Company Realty, based in Metro Detroit. I have offices in Royal Oak and Allen Park, MI. I’ve always had a passion for real estate, which started when I started laboring for my dad’s real estate investment company, then bought my first home at 20. Before becoming a realtor, I worked in telecommunications sales at Verizon, where I got my start learning customer service and sales.
I offer a range of real estate services, from helping clients buy and sell homes to helping them plan/build new construciton homes. What sets me apart is my commitment to my clients and my deep knowledge of the local market. I focus on building long-term relationships and delivering an excellent customer experience, ensuring the process is as smooth and stress-free as possible.
I’m particularly proud of my track record in the industry. Despite only being a realtor for a couple of years, I’ve already made significant strides, including being featured in Real Producers Magazine, and Voyage Michigan. Ive also recently earned my Brokers License in May of this year.
One of the main things I want potential clients to know is that I’m dedicated to their success. Whether they are buying their first home or looking to invest in multiple properties, I bring a personal touch and a wealth of knowledge to every transaction. I’m also actively involved in my community, coaching wrestling and participating in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
In summary, my brand is all about trust, loyalty, and exceptional service. I’m here to help my clients navigate the real estate market with confidence and achieve their goals.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been referrals from people I know and from those who find me through my social media videos. Referrals are great because they come from trusted relationships and satisfied clients who recommend my services to their friends and family. My social media presence also plays a significant role. By sharing informative and engaging videos, I can connect with a wider audience, showcase my expertise, and build trust with potential clients before we even meet. This combination of personal referrals and social media has been incredibly effective in growing my business.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that just because things are going well, it doesn’t mean they’ll stay that way. Early on, I thought that having a steady flow of clients meant I could relax a bit. But I quickly learned that you can’t take your foot off the gas. If you lose sight of the tasks that build your business, things can change quickly. You have to keep doing the activities that keep your business profitable, like prospecting, marketing, and networking. It was a wake-up call to stay consistent and never get too comfortable, no matter how good things are going.
