Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shana Trimble. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Shana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
As I reflect on my journey, where I have been, where I am now, and where I want to be, I can think of many defining moments. However, the moment that sticks out the most is when I decided to go for it. I recall sitting at my corporate office job; looking at my recently conferred master’s in science degree, thinking to myself wow!… now what? I had a ton of unanswered emails and voicemails that needed my response as well as a long list of meeting invitations to go over the status of multiple reports, with staff and customers, updates for my boss, needed to plan date night with my husband, juggling my kids’ calendars, had some to dos for my dad who was sick and pondering on what to cook. My current job afforded me the ability to support my family and many of the things I enjoyed. Yet I was looking at a degree that would possibly change my life, feed what I felt my purpose was at the possibility of not being able to take care all of the things I have become attached to do, for not just me but for everyone I cared about. So I recall asking myself, is it worth giving up what I know, embarking on the unknown, all to ‘feel’ good. After all, that is what ‘going after your purpose’ meant to me; to feel like you are making a difference. I never thought, when going after the degree, I would be faced with this question. Guess this is the con for living in the moment, lol. But it was at this moment when I thought about all the hard work I had put forth for others, my current company, jobs before this one, family, friends, volunteering, and all that was required to help others. Then I realized that if I love helping others, why I am not one of those others? And it was at this point that I decided to use this same energy that have helped others be successful, on myself. For a short moment, I grieved the old me and the things that I would possible lose and was hating the me that was doubting my ability but at the same time, I was feeling motivated and excited for the new me, because this new me would help me do something that would feed both my ‘feel’ good side and my obvious need to ‘help’.
Shana , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! My name is Shana Trimble, a licensed marriage and family therapist, an AAMFT SIT, and the owner of N’Perfect Balance. I currently provide services that assist individuals 13years+, couples, families, and groups suffering from an array of mental and emotional concerns. I also provide supervision to pre-licensed and licensed clinicians in need of AAMFT supervision services. I have my master’s in marriage and family therapy/counseling and a certified life coach with experience working with a very diverse population. I work from a holistic systemic view, we impact life as life impacts us, integrative approach that is inclusive of Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Collaborative Family Therapy. I am also big on Psychoeducation. My main focus is on relationships, as I love helping people better their relationships with themselves, others, and things that can sometimes present some difficult challenges. And for this reason, I love being a therapist.
Actually for as long as I can remember I wanted to help others. If superpowers were a thing, I would I would have the power to heal. But since this is not an option, being a therapist for me is the next best thing. It gives me the ability to help others along their journey. And seeing others thrive is one of my happy places.
I have other happy places as well. I am married to a wonderful man, who is a true compliment for the last 29+years. We have three adult daughters and an adorable toddler grandson. I love music from most genres, dancing, reading, being creative, and puzzles, including the intellectual kind. I crave information, change, and growth, which includes switching up my hairstyles and redecorating my home. I hate being barefoot and you will never catch me without socks if I am not wearing shoes. I am not a huge TV watcher per say but a true sucker for a good love story or an action film.
I share all of this to say, I am a therapist, yes and I love what I do, but I am also human. And I use being human to connect with my clients. My priority is to create a genuine and honest connection with my clients with no judgments, as I understand that it takes a lot of courage to ask for help. So with me, you will find that I am rooting for every one of my clients as well as others who are working hard to become the best version of themselves, simply because, I want everyone to win.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I believe being a human who is open to learning is a requirement to be successful in this field. A lot of what we learn in life is through actual life experiences and encounters with others. The training and education have taught me a skill but my clients teach me how to help them.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Again, being human, open to learning from my clients, staying true to my purpose of genuinely wanting to help, and providing an absolute no-judgment zone, where my clients feel safe to be vulnerable and get help at the same time. I also help my clinicians provide the same level of care. We are in the human services field, and we cannot forget that.
