Shana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am a former competitive swimmer that traveled Europe competing.

I worked several years in the medical field, starting out in the military. I would teach soldiers to swim and families for free just because of the love I had for swimming. I felt everyone deserved to share that same love for aquatics as I had.

Unlike many competitors, we prioritize serving underserved populations, particularly the unhoused community, by offering free or low-cost swim lessons that promote water safety and confidence. Additionally, our partnerships with local businesses and organizations enhance our programs, allowing us to provide comprehensive resources and foster a sense of community. During a challenging summer, Diversified Swimming Inc faced a sudden funding cut that threatened our swim program for the unhoused community. Instead of giving up, I rallied my team and reached out to local businesses for support. We organized a community Splash Back to School Backpackgive-a-way, inviting residents to participate and raise funds. The event not only brought in crucial financial resources but also raised awareness about our mission. Through perseverance and community engagement, we not only saved our program but also strengthened our ties with local businesses and supporters, allowing us to continue our work in water safety and empowerment for those in need.

Have you ever had to pivot?

A time when I had to pivot in business with Diversified Swimming Inc was during the unexpected shift in demand for swim lessons. Initially, we focused primarily on traditional swim instruction, but as community needs evolved, we noticed a growing interest in water safety education due to increasing awareness of drowning risks. To address this, I decided to adapt our curriculum and develop specialized programs that emphasized water safety, lifeguard training, and swim instruction for underserved populations. By shifting our focus, we not only met the needs of our community but also strengthened our position as a leader in water safety education, enhancing our impact and reach.
