Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shamira Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shamira, appreciate you joining us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? We’d love to hear the backstory the illustrates how you grew the firm
I would say that with my real estate, insurance, and fitness businesses I was able to scale and I’m still growing because it’s no longer just me. I’m not doing it by myself any longer. I’m part of a real estate team. I’m part of a fitness team. I’m part of an insurance team. As a society we have to have a paradigm shift and stop thinking that I’m going to do it myself and I’m going to outgrow everyone. There’s growth in humility. I would say it’s important to be part of a tribe that have some of the same goals. It’s important to be part of a tribe that encourages you to be your best self. It’s important to ideate together. It’s important to keep open communication with one another. And most importantly its important to have GOD AS YOUR FOUNDATION!

Shamira, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Okay so for Insurance, originally I got into it because of money! I started working a job using my Health Insurance license. It provided great pay but as I saw how I made a difference in individual’s lives it became a passion and not just a paycheck. Then I got my Life Insurance license. I did that because of pay too but also because I wanted to have my own business. I was passionate about it but became even more passionate about having my own business and insurance when my dad passed. I took off from my job to get my family affairs in order with the passing of my dad. He was very sick with Diabetes, Kidney issues, and had other issues as well. He was a Veteran and left behind my mother, my sister, my brother in law and his grands and I. The VA did help with his burial and even though I was an insurance agent my family still had to do a GO FUND ME to help my mother with bills. Once I returned to my job, I discovered they let me go. Two passions sparked from that. 1. I don’t want other families to go through that. Families should be able to focus on the legacy of their loved one vs bills when their loved one passes. 2. I never want to be in a position where my livelihood was determined by someone else’s feelings. Especially when its during a life changing event. I also want to empower others the same.
For my real estate business. My parents were married for over 40 years. My mom was the Love of my Dad’s life. Growing up we moved around a lot because my parents always rented.
Thankfully a family member recommended a Realtor who had a lot of experience with helping Veterans purchase homes. She was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond just helping my parents purchase a home but also helping with VA benefits. She became family!
My dad passed the beginning of last year but thankfully before he passed, he was able to leave a legacy of love through his home for his wife, daughters, grandsons, and future offspring.
This sparked a desire in me to want to do this for others. So I became a realtor. The Bible says people perish for a lack of knowledge. How many individuals out there who don’t know how to purchase homes, get pre approved for a home loan, and how to access resources that they are entitled to. That’s where I come in.
Finally for my fitness business I got into that because during middle of 2020 I was almost 300 pounds. I suffered from constant migraines and was kind of depressed because of it. My weight made me look way older than I was. I use to get terrible headaches when I went to my son’s football games because of the sun.
It came to the point I was sick and tired of being this way. I made the determination that I wasn’t going to live like this for the rest of my life and I did something about it. I worked out daily doing a really cool step aerobics Xtreme Hip Hop with Phil and I changed how I ate. It started with a paradigm shift.
People saw my results and were shocked. A lot of people didn’t even recognize me. They asked how I did it. I would tell them. Eventually, I became certified and started offering the aerobics class. For me, its more minisitry than anything. I feel called to do it. One thing I’ve learned in this journey is that you must tell your story because you never know who you inspire.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
First and foremost God. I let him know that if I win or fail its on Him because I’m giving my businesses to Him. Now in addition to that, I believe authenticity is what helped build my reputation within my market. Just keep it real. This world need’s what you have. Now I know that I can be awkward, goofy, creative, and incredibly intelligent amongst other things. I embrace it all. My market appreciates that. There is only one you so don’t try to be someone else because thats a disservice to this world. Individuals are drawn to those they know like and trust. They are drawn to those they can relate to.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I would have to say I had to unlearn the lie that if someone else is doing something then I can’t do it because it’s already being done. Again, if you are being authentically you, then whatever it is that you are offering will be end up being different from what others are offering. You are fearfully and wonderfully made and you have a unique fingerprint. So even though it may seem that you are offering the same thing as someone else, you are the unique ingredient that makes the product completely different. So offer it anyway and put a whole lot of the real you in it.
