We were lucky to catch up with Shamika Gary recently and have shared our conversation below.

Shamika, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.

I guess this is kind of a success story for a client of mine as well as for me. I had already decided that I was no longer going to pursue being an herbalist. I had already told God I was done. God told me that I was not done. I had just had a major surgery and was still not where I thought I should be as far as my healing process was going. The doctor had told me that I should be feeling better, but then again everyone is different. That put me in a deep, dark depression and I was trying to climb my way out and couldn’t. So I told God I was done. I was not finishing class and even if I wanted to I couldn’t. Well God truly had other plans for me because just as sure as I verbally said “I am done”, it was like God was saying,” I told you, you weren’t done.” I literally received a phone call from a friend saying, “God told me to call you. I need something to help with my blood pressure and my sugar.” She said she had just left the doctor’s office and was very upset because they wanted to put her on more blood pressure medicine and that her sugar was elevated. She said the physician’s assistant gave her two months to lower her blood pressure and get her sugar down or she would have to put her on something. I listened to her story and I told her to give me a couple of days because I was still not feeling my best. I got off the phone and was like I already said I am done. I will just let her know in a few days that I am not doing this. A few minutes later, I received a call from a friend who stays out of town. She said, hey girl, the Lord told me to give you a call. I need something for blood purification, or something to detox with. She told me what was going on and my response to her was, I know the Lord told you to call me because He is funny. I told him I was done with this. I didn’t want to do this, but He told me HE was not done. You are the second person to call me today. I told her that I wasn’t feeling too well, but if I felt better I would let her know. Before she got off the phone, she said sis, I know it can be hard, but God did tell me to call you. Don’t give up yet. Fast forward two months later, my first client called me whispering on the phone, “Mika, I’m at the doctor’s office and I have to tell you those herbs REALLY DO WORK!!! I just had my blood pressure checked and it has not been down like this is SO LONG, I’m in tears, AND I have lost 4 pounds!!! I didn’t expect to do that! My sugar is back normal, so I don’t have to be on any medicine!! The physician assistant was almost in tears!! She told me whatever I’m doing, keep doing it because it is working!!! Thank you so much Mika.” I was so excited for her, I was screaming and crying right along with her. At that moment, God told me, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.” And that was just my FIRST client! I have more testimonials, but the first one was my OKAY GOD, I TRUST YOU!

Shamika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Shamika Gary, I am a certified herbalist. I started this journey because I wanted to better my health. I had a holistic health coach who introduced me to herbs as far a for flavoring. I loved how they tasted so much I started talking with her more about it. She was telling me that she uses them a lot and for different things, and this got my mind spinning. I started reading up on different herbs and decided that I wanted to dive a little further. I started looking things up and of course my search engine started to show all things herbal and I found the class that discussed becoming a herbalist. From then I started my journey to become an herbalist and learn what I can. What I didn’t know at the time that I would get so sick that I would have to discontinue the classes. I was so sick that it was hard to get out of bed at times. I later found out that I had fibroids, and a few months later, I had a hysterectomy. All of this on top of being new to menopause sent me into a spiral. I was depressed, angry, frustrated, hurt, sad at different times and sometimes all together. It wasn’t until I saw my loctician and spoke with her about what was going on she pointed out to me, hey you are the herbalist, you got this. Go into your herbs and make something. I told her that I gave it up. She told me, “No sis, you just hurt, but you can come out of this.” A few days later I was at home and I prayed and asked God to show me what to do because I was tired and the doctor couldn’t give me a straight answer, just pills. God I trust you and He showed me what to do to help myself.
I am not here to gloat about myself. Nothing I do is my work. This is ALL GOD! All my products are made from high quality herbs and before I do any mixing or making, I say a prayer to God asking Him to guide me in the way He wants me to go with the herbs for each particular clients remedy. I make several generic (meaning not specific to one person) herbal capsules and teas blends for energy, anxiety/calmness, sleep, headaches, coughs, colds, flus, viruses, and immunity boost…things of that nature. I also make cough syrups and immunity syrups. I make tea blends and capsules to help with ladies health such as menstrual cramps, PMS, menopause ,fibroids, and urine incontinence. I make men’s health to improve testosterone and libido. Then I make specific herbal blends (for people’s specific need) tailored to the individual such as needing help with blood pressure, diabetes, pain and cholesterol, of course these clients have to have a consult to discuss their health in full and if they are taking medications. My clients do know that I am NOT a medical doctor and that the herbs are not FDA approved. I do not say that I can heal or fix anyone, but I do know that herbs can help if given the proper time as with anything else. On that same note with keeping everything herbal/natural, I have also started my own natural skin care line that includes a 3 step facial care, lip balm moisturizer, body oils, and body butter. I also make herbal bath bombs, bath salts, and shower bombs. These are only some of what I make, with GODS help, of course!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Word of mouth! I am new to this and I let people try my products and they tell someone and they tell someone and so forth.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Funding my business started from my allowance. Whatever allowance I received from my main job, I put into my herbal business. I am still small and so now I turn my profit and buy what I need for my business at the moment.
