We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shamier Floyd . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shamier below.
Shamier, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
It started with a modeling class hosted by Kira Williams called The Kalon Experience. She really helped mold me into being a model, from my confidence, walking in heels, and posing. Growing up, I never cared for heels, so walking in them was a skill I needed to learn. It was probably the funniest and hardest thing because I struggled. Learning how to turn, pose, and simply walk was new to me. It definitely pushed me to put down the sneakers and wear heels more often. Being a model, you have to let go of the “I may not look right” or “I’m not as good as them” mindset. Everyone has their own style. Being a creator was more self-taught. I started experimenting with different apps and editing styles to really bring my content to life. Every influencer has a certain uniqueness to them, and following trends sometimes can really wash away your content. It’s good to stay true to yourself and what you like, rather than hopping on what’s hot at the moment.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Shamier, and I grew up on the Southside of Atlanta, GA. We call it Clay Co, short for Clayton County. I’m an aspiring model and creator. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been trying to figure out what my calling is. One thing that I’ve always been drawn back to is the world of arts, film, and production. I have a dream of working on a movie set or wherever God places me and my talents. I’m actually in the process of getting back into school to become an SFX makeup artist to enhance my skills and techniques. Halloween is one of my favorite times because that’s where the creative and model meet. So far, I’ve done Freddy Krueger and the Joker. Using cotton balls, tissue, fake blood, SFX makeup tools, and latex, you’d be surprised at what you can do. By doing this, I recreated Freddy’s burnt look and the Joker’s scar. One main thing I’ve learned is that it’s simply about what YOU like, not the audience. Some will love it, and some won’t. For me, I’m going after what most people won’t do. Just because it happened a certain way for one person doesn’t mean it’ll happen the same way for me. We all have different routes and experiences in life. Never be jealous of someone else’s success is what I tell myself. You don’t know what they’ve gone through to get to where they are. I’ve done a few shows, been to a couple of events in my city where I was mentioned in pictures and videos on their socials, been a part of a few brand shoots, also modeled for a few brands, and I’ve been mentioned and posted by ToteNCarry. As of now, I just want to continue to expand working with brands and attending events within my city and community. I have a lot of ideas and dreams for young girls who come from where I come from. To be a model or creator, you don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to follow a trend. Become the trend.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
If what I’m doing isn’t to your liking, it’s best you find something or someone that is. I’m not changing what I love and who I am to please anyone on my platform. A creative person isn’t an “inside the box” type of person. We are outside-the-box type of people. So, if your mind is always stuck inside the box, you may not like my content, and that’s okay. There’s an episode of SpongeBob where he and Patrick were inside a box, having different scenarios going on based on their “imagination.” From a police arrest to a rocket launch, Squidward, standing on the outside of the box, couldn’t understand how it all seemed so real. Every time he opened the box, he found nothing. From the outside looking in, you may not understand our creativity. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist for us.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, it’s about having my own say-so in the content I create. I don’t have to follow the guidelines of “what’s hot” or “what looks good.” I get to bring different crazy ideas to life and build off what I’ve already done. Just having the opportunity to put out my work is a blessing in itself.
