We were lucky to catch up with Shamecca Freeman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shamecca, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Getting my hair done has always been a source of joy and confidence. But when I went natural in 7th grade and eventually did the “big chop,” that confidence disappeared. I had to learn how to care for my natural hair and, in doing so, also rebuild my self-esteem. I know firsthand how much a woman’s relationship with her hair can affect how she feels about herself.
When I discovered wigs, I thought I’d found the perfect solution. They gave me versatility, but I quickly ran into new challenges: spending hundreds of dollars on installs that didn’t last and not knowing how to recreate the same look at home. Those frustrations left me determined to find a solution for myself and other women facing similar struggles.
Later, when I enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University during the COVID-19 pandemic, I had time to reflect on my purpose. I realized I felt unfulfilled because I wasn’t pursuing my passion for hair. After taking a gap year and going through one of the hardest periods of my life—including living in my car for seven months—I knew I couldn’t keep letting other people’s doubts hold me back. That’s when I launched Peculiar Perfection.
This journey has shaped how I approach my business and why I’m so deeply committed to my mission. I know what it’s like to feel lost in your appearance and have your self-worth tied to your hair. I’ve seen how a new hairstyle can completely transform how a woman carries herself. That’s why I offer more than just wigs—I provide encouragement and guidance so my clients can feel confident, capable, and beautiful.
Through Peculiar Perfection, I uplift women with high-quality wigs and emotional support. I send weekly motivational emails because I understand that women need more than just products—they need to feel seen, heard, and inspired. Every wig I sell and every email I send is part of my effort to empower women to embrace their beauty and thrive, inside and out.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Shamecca, founder of Peculiar Perfection, a brand dedicated to empowering women through high-quality, beginner-friendly, glueless wigs. My journey into this business came from my struggles with hair & confidence.
After going natural in 7th grade and doing the “big chop,” I lost all confidence in my appearance. I didn’t know how to care for my natural hair and had to learn to nurture my hair and self-esteem. Eventually, I discovered wigs and loved the versatility and low-maintenance style they offered. It was also a struggle—I faced expensive installs that didn’t last, glue that damaged my hairline, with little guidance on how to properly maintain both my wig and natural hair.
In 2023, I launched Peculiar Perfection to solve these frustrations for other women. Our wigs come pre-plucked, pre-bleached, and styled, so clients don’t have to worry about customizing them. Many companies send wigs with factory hairlines, leaving customers to figure out how to pluck and bleach the lace themselves—a process that, if done wrong, can easily ruin the wig Others have to pay extra for their stylist to do it for them. I eliminate that hassle & expense by offering ready-to-wear, glueless wigs that help clients achieve a flawless look without compromising their edges.
A key feature of our wigs is HD lace. Unfortunately, many people are misled by claims of “HD transparent lace” on platforms like Amazon. Let’s clear this up—there’s no such thing. Lace is categorized by denier or thickness. HD lace is thinner and blends naturally into all skin tones, while transparent lace can leave a visible white cast if not melted properly. Understanding what you’re buying ensures you get the best value, hence our commitment to providing honest product descriptions and education.
Beyond wigs, I’m passionate about educating women on how to care for their natural hair underneath. I send weekly motivational emails because I believe women need more than just products— we encouragement and practical advice.
Our commitment to quality, empowerment, and authenticity sets Peculiar Perfection apart. It’s deeper than wigs; it’s about creating freedom from damaging practices and helping women care for themselves.
I’m most proud of taking the first step and continue striding towards the vision for Peculiar Perfection. So many people go through life without ever pursuing their dreams. It took me about seven years from when I first had the idea to launch this business, but I did it. I live by the saying, “small steps, great distances,” and that mindset keeps me going. I want women to know they can be their own biggest cheerleaders and take the leap into their dreams with flawless hair.
For potential clients and followers, Peculiar Perfection is here to make your hair journey empowering & simple. Whether you’re new to wigs or an experienced wearer, we provide beginner-friendly, protective wigs and the education and support you need to feel confident every step of the way.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A story that illustrates my resilience is living in my car for seven months at 19 years old. I had plans to get an apartment, but I wasn’t yet mature enough to manage my money well. That season of my life tested me in ways I couldn’t have imagined, but it taught me invaluable lessons: nobody is coming to save you—you have to put in the work, manage your money wisely, and keep your trust in God.
It was an incredibly challenging time, but I made the most of it. When I wasn’t working, I spent time planning out how I wanted my business to be. I dreamed of what Peculiar Perfection could look like and how I could one day make that dream a reality.
When I finally got my apartment and launched my business, all the hardships I had endured felt worth it. Now, whenever I face obstacles, I remind myself of that period. If I could survive living in my car at 19, I could overcome the challenges that come with building a business and creating something greater. That experience shaped my mindset and resilience, giving me the strength to keep pushing forward.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty by checking in with them after their purchase to ensure they’re happy with their wigs and have the guidance they need. Beyond that, I send weekly motivational emails, which average a 54% open rate. These emails aren’t just about promotions—they’re designed to inspire and uplift, sharing messages of encouragement that many of my clients deeply resonate with.
Sometimes I receive replies like, “Thank you” or “I really needed to hear this today.” It’s the little moments like that, that remind me why I do this. Fostering brand loyalty is about building a genuine relationship—where clients feel seen, valued, and supported in both their hair journey and beyond.
