We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shambria Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shambria below.
Shambria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Honestly, I didn’t know I wanted to pursue a creative path, in general. For me, the pandemic sparked something in me. I was questioning my purpose and what exactly would make me happy. It wasn’t until I had a conversation with one of my best friends and she asked me, Shambria, if you could create your dream job what would it be? Although my social media platform, When Passion Speaks (WPS), is not my dream job, it was in that moment, WPS was born. A thought made manifest to be exact.
Though WPS is something I pursue in leisure and not so much professionally, it has created opportunities for me to host and partner with others. And hey, whose not to say with and through more partnerships and exposure, WPS can turn into a more professional realm (fingers crossed).
Shambria, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely! Again, my name is Shambria Davis but for the sake of this interview, I will refer to my online personality, “Sham D…That’s Me!” I embarked on the social media/content creator industry in 2020 amidst the pandemic. Some would classify the pandemic as a dreadful time, and to a certain extent I agree. However, it was an awakening time for me. From the storm blossomed an idea that would eventually manifest and touch so many lives. Lives have been touched through healing conversations, authentic revelations, and unapologetic realizations. These are the products and services WPS provides and could not be found in any online store! Unconventional right? Lol!
As far as problems I’ve solved for my passionate guests, I would actually like to rephrase the question by stating that we all, myself and guests involved, help solve each other problems or create a unapologetic space in hopes of problems being rectified in one’s one way. This is what sets WPS a part from other social media content. It’s not a one-sided platform. I do not operate like that nor do I plan to in the future. More than anything, WPS is just as much other’s platform as it is mines because without the passionate guests, there wouldn’t be a WPS. Ok, so it would be a WPS but not as impactful as it has been and is striving to continue being. In addition, I know social media is all a numbers, algorithms, and how many followers game. However I will say this, though I welcome an influx of followers to my platform (follow WPS on Instagram as you read lol), I’m more committed to the quality of this platform. I am committed to all the helpful advice given, the healing conversations being had, and all the passion/purpose being (re)discovered. It is from that mindset I feel WPS will stand the test of time.
Lastly, I am most proud of WPS’s influence on the lives of people who are willing to watch and become passionate guests. It amazes me how even after taking a long sabbatical from WPS and my alias, Sham D…That’s Me, people are still asking about WPS’s return. And that’s the main thing I want my followers/future followers to know about WPS; we are here for the long haul and are committed to seeing its followers heal and be free, unapologetically!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Healing, Unlearning, and Relearning! These are the three goals/missions driving my creative journey. Lets, for a second, forget the “instant gratification/recognition” social media provides and focus on the real lives of people aside from social media. When all the pictures are taken, videos/reels are captured, and captions are written, what is left? How is your mental, emotional, and psychological state? I pose these rhetorical yet thought provoked questions to state; it’s important for us, on social media and in real life, to heal, to unlearn, and to relearn. It is in those moments that we will arrive to a better understanding of self. This personal journey for me is the drive for my creative journey and I pray it become the driving force for others.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I wish I could say I have this elaborate story of how I built my audience but honestly I don’t. I simply made my page public and allowed followers to follow and unfollow as they so choose. Sometimes, I do let the amount of followers or those who may unfollow get to me but I am immediately reminded of the true purpose (quality) of WPS and not necessarily the quantity. Those who choose to discontinue following, that’s completely fine. Those who choose to continue following, just know I am forever appreciative and WPS is committed to its followers personal healing and growth.
My advice…
Do you!
Be very intentional of the message you want your followers to receive!
Don’t worry/compare your (social media) journey to others.
Keep going. The followers will come.
Remember your why!
Remember the Source (God/Higher Being/etc.)
