We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shaman Nabeel Redwood. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shaman Nabeel below.
Shaman Nabeel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
Before I became a shaman, I was stuck in a dead end retail job. The people I worked with were wonderful, but like so many of us, I was unhappy doing unfulfilling work just to make end’s meet.
Then my boss asked if I’d be interested in teaching workshops to customers on how to use the products we sold. I was reluctant because I believed I was terrible at teaching. But I said yes to the opportunity because I just wanted a change of pace from my usual responsibilities. So I taught these workshops a bit half-heartedly, but quickly found that I quite enjoyed teaching. Customer feedback praised me so much that I gradually went on to teach advanced workshops, training other employees, and presenting at important meetings.
The experience didn’t make me want to stay at that job, but it did reveal that I just might make a good teacher after all, and I might even enjoy it. Within a few years, I had started my career in alternative healing and soon had the opportunity to teach classes on the subject I was most interested: spirituality.
I’ve been teaching ever since, and I can say that I use the skills I learned in that old job every day in my work now. Looking back, I realize now that even when I felt totally stuck and utterly lost, I was still quietly fulfilling my purpose. Ultimately, worrying about my future never helped. What turned the corner for me was saying yes to something that scared me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been a practicing shamanic healer, spiritual teacher, and writer for over a decade. I started out seeking healing for myself, practiced the techniques I learned diligently, and eventually found myself helping others with what I’d learned. Though I never intended to do this work professionally, my casually helping friends & family gradually grew into a business.
I offer Tarot readings, shamanic healing sessions, and personal training for those who want to learn shamanism, meditation, or magic for themselves. I help people determine their path, reconnect them to their inner spirit, and give them tools for empowerment.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
There are many scammers in spiritual healing who take advantage of people. But I take my work seriously and do it ethically, often at the expense of making more money. Early on, it was scary to act on my principles, but gradually I earned a reputation for honesty that’s been perfectly fruitful. People recognize when businesses care about money than people, and vice versa. The longterm benefits of prioritizing people over profit is much more rewarding than any short term score at someone else’s expense.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During the pandemic, I had to close my office and transition completely to virtual work from home, which was particularly challenging as a healer used to working in person. I made the necessary adjustments but like many people, I feared my business wouldn’t survive and I endured existential crises about what to do next. But left with no other options, I embraced the change and transformed the way I work. I devoted my time to building an online course, hosting classes on Zoom, and publishing my first book.
Three years later, I’ve just recently opened a new office. There were many times I wanted to give up, but instead I just kept experimenting until the storm passed.
