Hi Shalisa, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?

Hi, I’m Shalisa Chamberlain, CBD expert and owner of Furry Faces CBD, I’m proud to share my personal journey and the defining moment that led me to a drastic career change and the creation of my company dedicated to helping pets naturally with CBD.

I have always been passionate about wellness and natural healing, but it wasn’t until a life-altering horse accident that I discovered the true power of CBD. My body was broken and my physicians offered me little hope and powerful medications. I knew this was not the way. In 2008 I discovered the miracle of CBD and spent years researching the effects of CBD on the body. After healing my own body with CBD, I then turned to using this natural remedy to help my beloved pet Mojo. The transformation I saw in Mojo was nothing short of miraculous, and it forever changed the trajectory of my life.

That moment was a defining moment in my professional career. I realized the potential CBD had to help not just me and my pet, but also other animals and their owners. It was then that I made the decision to leave my previous career of 20 years as a veterinary technician and dive headfirst into the world of CBD and pets.”

One of the biggest problems I’ve seen in the pet CBD industry is navigating the world of pet CBD education online. It can be an overwhelming and confusing experience for most pet owners. With limited regulations and a national gag order prohibiting veterinarians from recommending or speaking about CBD, in all states except California. Starting a business in the CBD industry comes with its own unique set of challenges, but for pet owners, the stakes are even higher as they want nothing but the best for their furry friends. Despite the numerous hurdles faced in this industry, I was determined to make a difference for pet owners and provide them with CBD education along with high-quality, safe, and effective CBD products for their pets.

The CBD industry is highly regulated, and finding payment processors that would accept CBD was a big challenge. I would constantly get shut down and have to find new processors because of the continuously changing policy within payment processing companies. Banks were reluctant to provide business accounts, adding to the difficulties of operating in this field. The stigma surrounding CBD being related to marijuana and the possibility of pets getting high only added to the challenge.

One of the biggest hurdles was getting the correct information out to pet owners. CBD is not allowed to be marketed as a treatment for any medical condition, which made it difficult to educate consumers about the benefits of CBD. Social media algorithms suppressed content that mentioned the word “CBD,” making it even harder to reach pet owners. Online platforms like Amazon only allowed hemp oil to be sold, leading to confusion among consumers and a lack of trust in the effectiveness of CBD products. Hemp oil is not CBD oil.

Despite these challenges, I was determined to make a difference. I sought out partnerships with organizations that shared my passion for improving the lives of pets through CBD. I invested time and resources into educating pet owners face-to-face where ever I could. Farmers markets, dog parks, or any outdoor pet events I could speak at to share the benefits of CBD, I focused on providing high-quality education and products that were safe and effective for pets.

Today, I am proud to say that my business is slowly growing, and I have been able to make a positive impact on the lives of countless pets. The journey was not easy, but my resilience and determination to succeed paid off. My story is proof that, with hard work and persistence, it is possible to succeed in the CBD industry and make a difference in the lives of pets and their owners.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?

As someone who has been in the CBD industry for a while, I’ve had the privilege of working with and leading a variety of teams. I know firsthand how important it is to have a team of motivated and engaged individuals who are passionate about their work. This is why I believe that as a team leader, maintaining high morale among your team members is one of the most important things you can do for your company.

So, let me share with you some tips that have worked for me in managing a team and keeping morale high.

Create a family-like atmosphere: One of the things that I believe sets a successful team apart is a strong sense of camaraderie. Encourage open communication and make sure everyone feels heard and valued. Celebrate each other’s successes and support each other through tough times. When you work together as a team, you’ll accomplish so much more.

Show appreciation for hard work: It’s so important to let your team members know that you appreciate their hard work. A simple “thank you” or a small token of appreciation can go a long way in keeping morale high.
Lead with positivity: A positive attitude is contagious, and as a team leader, you have the power to set the tone for the entire team. Lead by example and maintain a positive outlook, even in difficult situations. Your team will follow your lead and maintain a positive attitude as well.

Invest in your team’s growth: When you provide opportunities for your team members to learn and grow, you’re showing them that you believe in their potential and value their contributions. This investment will pay off in spades in terms of their motivation and engagement.

Prioritize work-life balance: It’s important to remember that your team members have lives outside of work, and that balance is key to their overall well-being. Encourage them to take time off when needed and make sure they feel comfortable discussing their work-life balance with you.
