We were lucky to catch up with Shalet Monique recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shalet thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I believe in others even when they don’t believe in themselves. So when they are connected to me, they do not have the option to quit on themselves nor to give up.
Shalet, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Shalet Monique is an emerging multi-talented actress, stunt-woman, writer and producer born in Philadelphia, PA; raised in Willingboro, NJ. She is known for HBO’s We Own This City (2022), MARVELS Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) , BET Her The Pink Fight, Jurnees Revenge (2021) and Complicated (2020) . She holds a bachelors degree in Special Education and a masters degree in Educational Leadership and Development so when she’s not on set acting, she focuses on community outreach for youth with special needs and disabilities. Shalet is known for her infectious personality, undeniable drive, willingness to serve and limitless imagination.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I believe many of us during the pandemic learned the importance of having a pivot mindset. When we were not able to work on set I challenged myself to learn stunts. I spend a year and a half dedicating myself to stunt training which landed me a role in Black Panther Wakanda Forever I also studied screenplay writing and produced my first tv series pilot which went on to win best trailer in Venice Shorts, The International Black & Diversity Film Festival and the Chicago Indie Film Awards.
