We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shakira Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Shakira thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

The risks that I have taken in life is to just do it. Honestly I haven’t had my mind made up. I just took risks in opening my salon suite as cosmetologist, applying for modeling/acting and also becoming an accountant. And because I did all 3 they all work out for the best doing everything. Basically all jobs supported me opening my dreams!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

The way how I became in my industry was first I went to college got my degree. Then I went back for beauty to receive my cosmetology license. After that I apply for print ad & acting and got chosen in that as well! And the way how I juggle all 3 is my accounting job helps support my salon business and my acting travel. So when acting and the salon is slow I do that. Then when it’s very busy in the salon I do that directly after I get out of accounting. I’m very busy but all of my careers work out! Then when my acting gigs or model gigs come along I take off time to focus on that. What sets me apart from others is that I am very different and unique I got known for my blonde hair and looks so I engage with others in beauty and setting a great example! One thing I want others to know is that you can work for anything you want in life everything is time and patience.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

The lessons I had to unlearn was being patient. See with myself I just wanted everything to be right then and there quick. But I had to learn everything takes patience and time the effort you put in.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

Growing my clientele I’ll say myself every time I walk with my fresh Plantnium blonde everyone is always curious on who did my hair and I’ll explain my self and talk more into Pink’s Silk Salon and explain what I do.
