Shakila, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
In 2015, I created Walk This Way Movement to help women conquer their fears, overcome obstacles and build confidence through the art of walking in heels.
The technique consisted of Affirmations, posture technique, while learning how to walk and dance wearing heels.
I used “heels” as a tool to teach women that their obstacles are working as their strength.
Our Second class was featured on ABC’s Windy City Live.

In 2022, I also created “The One Pearl” Campaign. Pearl Necklaces designed as a reminder to women and girls that they are “The ONE PEARL” of great value that God has fought for to give them value.
Lastly, I created, Chin Up! You Got This! A confidence training workshop to help teen girls build self esteem and confidence.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got my start in the entertainment industry spanning from performer, to wardrobe stylist, to director and producer.
I also love to empower women & girls to rise above & achieve no matter their environment, society, or circumstances through sharing my testimony of overcoming the challenge of the foster care system, to becoming a successful entrepreneur and changemaker. My Books Chin Up You Got This!’ And Favor & Two French Braids are available where books are sold, including at ShakilaStewart.com – my official website.
I am most proud that when I was 26 years old, my mom passed away and as an struggling artist at the time, I adopted my ten year old brother! I love him so much. He gave me so much strength to believe in my potential. I am also proud that I had a dream to move from Chicago, IL to Los Angeles CA and in 2017! I did! I had a book signing at Barnes and Nobles at “The Grove “ in Los Angeles. My “One Pearl Campaign” was featured on a billboard and lastly I was on the hit show, Insecure it’s last season.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I love to see artists who are joyful on stage as well as in their personal lives. Artists give so much of themselves to the world and at times behind the scenes they are struggling to love themselves. I write, direct and produce programs that empower artist to heal, feel and enjoy their authenticity and life on the stage as well as off the stage.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the benefit of healing as you create characters, study roles and develop scripts that not only heal you, but your audience as well. As an artist there aren’t any limits to what you can create.
