We were lucky to catch up with Shakhya Singleton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shakhya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I came up with the idea of owning my own cleaning business in June of 2023. Let me take you back so that you can understand the driving force behind the birth of Clean Scene. I remember it like it was yesterday. My mother passed away on May 25, 2023 and I was devastated, with little to no motivation to do ANYTHING, let alone get out of the bed.
No one ever talks about how hard it is, to occupy your mind and stay afloat mentally and physically during the grieving process!One morning I got out of bed and absolutely hated my living space.

I made it my duty to clean my space from top to bottom, leaving no area untouched. After I finished, I felt SO much better, I felt like I could breathe again. After sitting down looking around at the wonderful job I’d done, I started thinking. How can I help others? They may not be in the same predicament as me but there are millions of people that are a single parents, depressed, elderly, struggling from postpartum or just too busy to tend to their living spaces and BOOM! I came up with the perfect idea; Clean Scene!

Shakhya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I came into the Cleaning Industry young, with a huge dream but with little to no knowledge honestly. I was determined to research, ask questions, and grasp all the information i could. No detail was unimportant. It took ALOT of discipline, learning myself and  what I did and didn’t like and more importantly, holding myself accountable. I knew that if I wanted to elevate my business, I had to start with myself.

Clean Scene is dedicated to transforming your space into a sanctuary of cleanliness and freshness, leaving no corner untouched. We provide full home deep cleanses including: baseboards, mopping, dusting, disinfecting and more. We leave no corner untouched!

What sets us apart from other cleaning services is my passion for what I do. I love it! I accept constructive criticism. I always ask my clients if there is anything that we could do to better serve them in the future! My goal is to make my client’s house feel like a home! A clean home! Taking a weight off their shoulders and preparing their living space where they’ll be comfortable and don’t have to touch a dust mite. I am proud of my consistency, work ethic, and determination to be the best cleaning service by far. I want my potential customers to know that when Clean Scene, LLC. is on the scene, you won’t have a care in the world. All of your expectations AND then some will be met and after we leave you’ll realize this is as close as it gets to your Grandma’s Saturday Morning Cleaning!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

Funding my business was not an easy task, but I was determined. I sat down and wrote out all of my expenses and realized that everything other than bills, were not priorities.

Then I wrote down the products and costs of them to see how much I would have to save to maintain a consistent business. I knew if i really wanted to start Clean Scene, I would do just that. So I started buckling down, paying bills and then immediately saving the rest of my income. I stopped going out; it wasn’t a necessity for me. Being that I am young, I would lose a lot of friends behind that alone. I didn’t care, anything to get me where I wanted to be. I picked up a second job during the night shift and at that point, for five months straight, I worked 16 hours a day. Before I knew it, I was able to quit my second job, and started pouring everything I had into making my dreams come true.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?

OMG, I was so nervous to launch Clean Scene. In this generation it’s all about popularity. If you’re not popular people tend to not support you and I was beyond scared so I was constantly pushing my launch date back! One of my clients who’s been with me from the veryyy beginning ,Ms.Stewart, asked me why don’t I promote myself, she told me that I do a great job and that more people could benefit from my services. I sat and thought long and hard about what Ms. Stewart told me. When I got home the next morning, I prepared a small statement and I got all my pictures together. I said to myself that I wouldn’t text anyone letting them know I was about to get ready and launch, I was just going to go for it! Within 30 minutes of posting, I had over 40 shares and multiple people inboxing me asking about the booking process! I will neverrr forget the joy that I felt in that moment!
