We recently connected with SHAKED MILLER and have shared our conversation below.
SHAKED, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It was the 1st time I saw a big live show, an artist named Idan Raichel.
I think I was about 3 years old on my dad’s shoulders, It was such an amazing gathering, so many people no matter the origin no matter the differences, looking up to this beautifully decorated stage in awe, the lights, thrilling and occasionally a bit blinding.
I just felt drawn to the stage.
I felt such unification in that moment, the artist had brought all of us together and could preach for his beliefs
that was the moment I knew I want to be on stage.
SHAKED, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Shaked Miller
I’m a singer, songwriter, composer, rapper and producer.
I Love Music.
I was a very confused very honest kid who cared deeply for justice, I still do.
I felt very alone, In my life, In my interests and with my feelings being bisexual being sort of gender fluid and a feminist.
when I grew up these things were very frowned upon and I was always “the weird kid” and “the tomboy”.
I started writing things down, composing them and playing with different instruments and DAW’s.
I think firstly it’s been a sort of meditation for me – to create
I had my own thing to do, my instruments to play with and my reality to create.
Later on I felt that sharing that with people can validate these things for other people, I knew there are other girls and boys that must feel the same, Locked up in gender generated boxes, looking at the “normal kids” as the weird ones.
I walked up to this amazing band after a show Lucille Crew, more accurately to their founder and producer Izzy and said – “hey I’m Shaked and I have some demos of my songs I loved your show and your music and i was wondering if we can work together”
Luckily he’d seen something in me and took me as a protégé
As the feminist that I am I made a deal with Izzy – we work together on this album and you teach me everything you know about musical production
So he did ,And I released my 1st project – Best Of This World
Outing myself, An album about my lesbian love interest.
I’ve always been told I should stick to one genre, but my goal is to have my listeners play a playlist that’s only by me but that feels like listening to the radio. keeping things interesting and fresh.
Generally, I believe that making yourself comfortable with yourself and accepting other people for who they are is the best way to live.
I’m filled with curiosity about humanity. The “good” the “bad” the shameful the passionate everything about humanity is what’s keeping me going. Life is beautiful but the core element in them for me is people. And I hope that people support me so that one day I can make a meaningful contribution to every person on this planet.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Eventually I would like to be able to inspire young girls and give them the courage and validation to speak up and chase their dreams.
Another dream I have is to open an investor funded international school designed to help bridge the gaps between different socioeconomic classes and provide high level education for people all over the globe.
I believe that when I make it big i’ll be able to fund and harness connections in order to make that happen.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
You kind of have to let go of the dream to make it happen.
Do your thing, Do your best, Whatever comes back is a blessing.
