We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shaiskai. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with SHAISKAI below.
SHAISKAI, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
We can still remember the first time we realized that pursuing a creative path was more than just a passion—it was the path we had to follow. From a young age, in kindergarten, we always loved to sing, joining the school choir and making up our own songs. Music became our language, even before we fully understood it. But it wasn’t until we were 13, during a quiet moment in the kitchen with our Uncle Ben, that everything clicked. When he asked us what we wanted to do, we told him, “We want to sing.” Without hesitation, he said, “Alright, let’s make it happen,” and became our manager. His belief in us gave us the courage to pursue our dream, and with his support, we began working with producers and songwriters in Philadelphia, pushing ourselves to grow with every new opportunity. His unwavering faith in us carried us through the hard times, and even after he passed away last year, we dedicated our music career to him. Everything we do now is in honor of his belief in us, and we continue to push forward, knowing that he’s still with us, cheering us on.

SHAISKAI, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are SHAISKAI, a musical duo that blends the best of R&B with a unique, dynamic edge that’s hard to ignore in today’s music scene. What sets us apart is not just our sound, but the connection we share as identical twins—this bond is at the core of everything we do, both musically and professionally. We offer a fresh take on R&B, combining Shai’s rap-infused vocals, reminiscent of the late Lisa Left Eye, with Skai’s smooth, grounded tone. Together, we create a dynamic sound that is both vibrant and alluring, edgy and fun. We believe this duality reflects the balance of day and night—Shai’s energy contrasts with Skai’s calm, but together, we create the perfect harmony.
Our musical journey began early. As kids, we were always surrounded by music, making up songs and singing in perfect unison. This natural connection was only strengthened when our Uncle Ben, who believed in us from the start, became our manager at age 13. He not only nurtured our talent but also believed in our potential to succeed in the music industry. His passing last November deeply impacted us, but it only strengthened our resolve to keep pushing forward in his honor. Everything we do in music is a tribute to his belief in us.
We’ve invested in our own future by studying Marketing and Management at Penn State to better understand the business side of music and to ensure we’re actively shaping our own career path. Our commitment to our craft is unwavering—we’ve never given up on music, even when it seemed like the world was moving in other directions. It’s the one constant we’ve always had, and it’s what drives us every day.
As a duo, we also offer a unique ability that comes with our twin bond. We’ve always had what we call “twin telepathy” in music: we can be in different rooms, and still sing the same part of a song at the same time. This unique connection gives us an intuitive edge when creating and performing. We believe it’s part of a greater plan—God’s plan for us to do something special together.
For us, music is more than just a career; it’s a way to connect with people, tell stories, and share our truth. As we are rebranding, our new found approach to music is thoughtful and intentional, and we take pride in being hands-on in every aspect of our career, from writing and producing to managing our brand.
We want our fans and potential clients to know that SHAISKAI is a brand rooted in authenticity, passion, and hard work. We’re not just another duo—we bring something special to the table. Our shared history, unique connection, and commitment to creating music with purpose make us a force in the industry. Our music is for those who appreciate a real, raw connection to sound and who resonate with the idea of balance—whether it’s in the harmony of our vocals, or in the way we approach life and business together.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Our journey has definitely taught us that it’s okay to start over—sometimes more than once—and that resilience isn’t about avoiding setbacks, but about knowing how to keep going even when things don’t go as planned. After graduating from college, life took us in different directions for a while—one of us had a baby, and we had to juggle new responsibilities while trying to keep our music career alive. It was a time of growth and transition, but also a time of pause, and we had to step back for a bit.
The real test of our resilience came when we found ourselves stuck in a contract that kept us from releasing music for two years. It felt like we were waiting in limbo, but even during that time, we kept working—writing, recording, and planning for when the right moment would come. When we finally got out of that contract, we released a project in 2021. While it wasn’t the breakthrough we had hoped for, it was our first complete project and the experience was incredibly valuable. We learned so much from that release—the process of creating, the feedback from our audience, and the things we could improve moving forward.
What we took away from that project was the realization that every step forward, no matter how small, is progress. We didn’t let the challenges of that time discourage us. Instead, we used it to fuel the next chapter of our journey. We’re starting over now—rebranding, refining our sound, and approaching our career with fresh eyes and renewed passion.
We’ve learned that resilience isn’t about avoiding failure; it’s about bouncing back, adapting, and continuing to push forward, no matter how many times we need to start over. Each chapter of our journey has taught us something important, and now, we’re more committed than ever to our music and to each other. Our story is still being written, and we’re excited to keep going, knowing that each challenge only makes us stronger.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For us, the most rewarding part of being artists is simply having an outlet to express ourselves. Music is a language everyone speaks—it connects people, no matter where they’re from or what they’re going through. For us, it’s about having a way to share our thoughts, our experiences, and our personalities with the world, and knowing that people can connect with it. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of making something that others can vibe with, relate to, or enjoy. It’s not just about creating music; it’s about creating something that people can feel, and that makes it all worth it.
