Alright, Shailyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?

Growing up, I always wanted to have my own business(s) or work at a big corporation. I once dreamed of having a 9am-5pm job with my own desk, a set salary, constant promotions and wearing business attire everyday! I also dreamed of having my own business of some sort. I based many of my life decisions on making sure I was well educated and was able to attain certain degrees to be successful in the business world.

As Covid-19 came along, my mindset started to shift as the world was changing. I realized that the corporate world was not for me. Many were expressing their dissatisfaction with their current jobs as majority felt that they were just a number in the grand scheme of things. I was once in the position of being miserable and feeling as though my job did not see me as “valuable.” I knew that if I had my own business, I would be able to change the trajectory of how employees were being treated in the work place. I took a leap of faith and began my entrepreneurial career.

La Belle’ Beauty Bar was created to help people feel and look BEAUTIFUL! God gave me the blueprint of what I needed to do to create, build, and establish my beauty bar. It involved many sleepless nights but I overcame ALL obstacles. I would go through the process over and over again because I am passionate of making a difference. Making people feel amazing about themselves brings me true joy and happiness. Being able to create a space where associates feel at ease while doing what they love brings me much gratification.

Recently, I had a conversation with my dad about how we thought I would be working at a corporate job. Little did we know this is where I would be today. With a regular job, I would not have nearly as many responsibilities that I do as a business owner. I would simply go to work and I would get paid for the specific hours. I never had to worry about how the lights stayed on, fixing any technical issues, and so many other things to keep the business running. As a business owner, I didn’t get paid for all the countless hours spent working on opening up my brick and mortar. Even after all the work I put in, I would never go back to working a regular job. I realized it is simply not for me. Being a business owner comes with a lot of responsibility but I love everything about it!

Shailyn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Shailyn Ramsey. I am a North Carolina native. I grew up always wanting to work a corporate job or own my own business(s). I worked in the beauty industry and fell in love with making people feel their best! La Belle’ Beauty Bar was created to help people feel and look BEAUTIFUL! We are a one-stop-shop that offers a plethora of natural and sensitive skin care products and services. With our skincare products and services, we are able to tailor to all unique skin types. We offer services such as full body waxing, facials, brow/lash services, and more! We also offer many natural skincare products and home goods.

I am so proud of how far La Belle’ Beauty Bar has come! Without each associate, we wouldn’t be where we are today! As a team, we make it appoint to work together to be able to create a lasting experience and provide quality services to each client that walks in and out of our doors. As we continue to grow, we will continue to add more quality services and products. We truly appreciate all the support from each of our clients.

Any advice for managing a team?

Imagine yourself working at your job. Ask yourself, are you being treated with the utmost respect? Do you feel valued? Are you happy in your work environment? Do you like your job? These are all important questions to ask yourself. If you do not like your job, feel valued, feel respected, or happy, the chances of you staying at a job diminishes. I always tell people, if you love what you do, it won’t feel like a job. You produce higher quality results when you are respected and enjoy what you do. My dad always told me to never stay where you are not wanted or valued. There will always be something better. Treat others how you would want to be treated in return.

With managing a team, that involves understanding and getting to know each associate. It involves encouraging their strengths and embracing their weaknesses. Figure out what each associate needs to be successful because not everyone works the same. Encourage each team member and fill them with positivity. If there are ever any issues, it is best to resolve any matters as soon as possible. The key is to be an active listener and be open and willing to make corrections. We can all make mistakes but it is best if you are willing to learn and grow!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The best source of any new client is by Word of Mouth. You can get services and products at many different places however, we tend to trust the opinions of those who guide us on where to eat, shop, and so forth. As a one-stop-shop, in the beauty industry, certain services can be personal. It is important that each client feels a sense of comfortability and security throughout their visit. Word of Mouth builds a different level of reassurance and creates a more meaningful brand reputation.
