We were lucky to catch up with Shahzeen Rehman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shahzeen, thanks for joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
Seat Check is a social app. It allows people to meet up in restaurants and different places. COVID-19 changed things for us. All of a sudden, people were not going out and restaurants were closed. This affected our growth. But we took that time to improve the app and add new features. Once the world started opening up, people were craving more social interaction and we noticed an exponential growth. Pandemic was the lowest growth rate for Seat Check but we knew that when we will come out of it, things will be better than before.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Shahzeen Rehman. Four years ago, me and my husband started Seat Check. Seat Check is the first of its kind social and fun app that allows people sitting in the restaurants share their empty seats with people in the area. Our goal was to eliminate the wait time in the restaurants and fill the seats that would otherwise remain empty. As we started to grow, users got more interested in the social nature of the app. People were making friends, meeting potential love interest, and making friends in new cities and countries. It is a fun way to meet and socialize without the pressure of dating. Its been an exciting journey to see how far we have come.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
We have funded the entire project ourselves. We used our savings to start and run this business.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Due to the social nature of the app, we have seen our growth mainly through social media and word of mouth marketing.
