We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful ShaElla Askew. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with ShaElla below.
ShaElla, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Social media can change weekly! It’s so easy to become overwhelmed. As long as your foundation is concrete, you’ll be fine but here are a few trends now in social media.
1. Organic and related content is king. I believe covid played a part in this. The human , emotional connection is desired again. Being too “salesy” or “aesthetic” can actually HURT you now. Be yourself. This is your time to shine!
2. Long videos. Shocking right? People, especially in the service industry are loving long form content. This is content that is considered to be 3-10 minutes long.
3. Tiktok is now used more than Google for a search engine! What does this mean? Hop on Tiktok now! I personally use Tiktok for restaurant and travel reviews. The reviews are in video form so you can get a more authentic experience.

ShaElla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I spent most of my adulthood working in call centers. I was overworked and I missed out on my kids growing up. I didn’t have the chance to explore my creative endeavors while making a difference.
I LOVE social media! I’m a social butterfly, a Libra. Engagement and networking comes natural to me. I was the girl with 10 journals that were filled with color ink from front to back.
So, making the decision to become a social media manager was easy. I made the quick decision in career change to start Hashatg Consulting LLC.
I started by offered deeply discounted services to those on social media. I learned from experience and also from courses online. I hired my first mentor and that investment helped boost my confidence.
I help small business owners understand social media and expand their brand awareness. I do not look at a brand for what they are, but what they are meant to be! I am deeply invested in each business as if it were my own.
I recently decided to move more towards being a social media strategist because i noticed that many business owners did not understand the planning process of social media.
You have to know your target audience, brand strategy, content pillars, customer avatars, hashtag strategy, KPIs, and much more!
My ultimate goal is to impact as many business owners as I can with my services with the upmost honesty and integrity.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my presence on social media by…being social. I tell people all the time. Focus on the connections, not the numbers. I do not have the biggest following, but my community is engaged. That makes a HUGE difference when you try to convert that audience down the line.
Wish people happy birthday. Celebrate small wins. Offer free advice. Be HUMAN. It works!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source for new clients has been Facebook and word of mouth. How you carry yourself makes a huge difference. Stop posting drama on your socials. Also, when you do perform a service, go above and beyond because one satisfied customer can potentially generate hundreds of leads!
