We recently connected with Shaela Whitted and have shared our conversation below.
Shaela, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
It was 2015, months after graduating college with my degree is fashion design & merchandising & I was desperately in search of a job in my field. I have always known my passion was in fashion & beauty just kind of came along later down the line. I filled out applications all day everyday and kept receiving denial after denial. I needed a creative outlet, & since it wasn’t going to be with my job I had to create one. I saw several people on social media, & that’s when I decided to give it a try. It honestly took a little push from being tired of my day to day. So I started with pictures and my brand has expanded over time.
Shaela, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Shaela Whitted known as Shaela Michelle across all social media platforms. I’m a content creator that dabbles in several things. My main focus is fashion, beauty, & lifestyle content creation. I dabble in short form, long form, & static content. I give fashion inspiration, teach beauty tricks, diy home updates & more. I’m always evolving but the things that I do creatively I love to make it affordable. I believe we see a lot of luxury lifestyle, but a lot of us can’t obtain it with high priced ticketing. I try to keep everything I do in a nice friendly budget without compromising the final look.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is that the world isn’t against me. I’ve been creating content since 2017 & was pretty consistent. After a while, I just wasn’t seeing the growth in both my everyday career and content creation. I started to blame the fact that the universe was against me when in fact it just wasn’t the right time. Now I move forward everyday with the fact that whatever opportunities come to me it’s a blessing, & what doesn’t isn’t for me yet.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honestly continuously showing up. Giving my audience something different to look forward to that isn’t like what they see across the internet.
In order to grow you have to be consistent. That means setting time aside to curate unique content to have something to post everyday. It’s a lot, but it leave you proud in the end knowing you put your best foot forward.
