We recently connected with Shae Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Shae, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think that success truly has a lot of different variations as it’s definition changes from person to person. For me, in relation to Olivia J, success is creating a product that people not only love, but that makes them want to come back and purchase more. It’s one thing to create a product that can be stood behind, but it is another to create one that you KNOW is of great quality and has others wanting more of!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Olivia J is a tights and socks company. What once started as a business primarily for babies and children has now become a family company since we now sell Women’s and Men’s sizes. Our products differ from others because of the fit, quality and fun patterns/prints. Rather than have your basic every day sock that is of a generic structure, our tights and socks are fitted to actually fit a child properly, they stay up and don’t sag throughout the day and their designs can be worn on a daily basis. After having my daughter, I realized there was a huge lack of products that actually fit babies correctly. I took matters into my own hands, found an amazing manufacturer and the rest is history. Olivia J has become not only a creative outlet for me, but a successful business that helps to support our family as well. It makes me so happy to see the number of people that have purchased from us at the beginning and are still purchasing three years later.
I’m most proud of the growth in our business over the past three years. Olivia J continues to grow organically via word of mouth and I’m just so grateful for all of our customers.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media plays a huge role these days in businesses and how a business thrives in general. It’s constantly changing, which is so hard to manage, but it can also be used as such a great tool. Our growth on social media is primarily due to word of mouth from our customers and the help of influencers. We send a decent amount of product out to some loyal influencers and they’ve really helped to share our products. I think that when you’re organically sharing a product you use a lot, followers are more willing to go and purchase. We have been so lucky to have our products in the hands of influencers that truly do love our products and help share about our company. In addition to the help of influencers, I think that it helps to be personable with followers. Building relationships with my customers is really important to me. I want to always make sure that I’m staying replying to DM’s, answering comments, etc… It shows that you care and they do matter to you regardless of the size of your shop.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation has a lot to do with our products. They are of much greater quality and most of all, they actually stay on. It’s one of our biggest reviews to date and it never ceases to amaze me over the fact that SO many parents have had the same issue that I had with socks and tights not staying properly and weren’t able to find a solution.
