We recently connected with Shadonis Covington and have shared our conversation below.
Shadonis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
What I feel most lead to create and build are things that encourage, empower and inform. My Astrology jewelry line is unlike any other, focused on custom designs surrounding the planets that feel luxurious and also purposeful. You’re able to learn the glyphs that help read birth charts and also put intention into your wardrobe.
As an Astrologer and woman of color, I feel many stereotypes are placed on all spiritual people. I can’t tell you how many times I shared that I was from New Orleans, and received a response that meant I just had to be into witchy, occult and magical things.
I mean I am…but that isn’t the point.
The point is that most spiritualists deserve a right to wear their practices how they like. I’m proud that most have chosen my astrology jewelry line to adorn themselves and show the world just how magical we all are.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a creator, producer and astrologer. I grew up balancing life between New Orleans and Atlanta since I was nine. Always being surrounded by creatives and entrepreneurs in my family, I knew my road wasn’t far from that. I started making jewelry as a child and quickly took to photography and anything that would help me express myself.
I’ve been in and out of the Atlanta scene since 2012 working with many other talented creatives. From hosting art shows, listening parties, producing films and managing artists to organizing some of the best venues in the city. All while building my own business endeavors along the way.
I’m known for specializing in locational astrology aka Astrocartography. I help people all over the world figure out where they should move, vacation to and purchase land, etc. I’m also known for designing custom jewelry.
I’m most proud of my ability to see and help others. My role as a mother has also been my badge of compassion and empathy for the world and how I wish to leave it better than I found it.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Let’s talk about GRACE.
As a long time overachiever, I never really cared about anything other than succeeding. I would make mistakes but I would always get back up, with success in mind. Never allowing room in my mind for failure isn’t what its all its cracked up to be. Because failing is inevitable and you know what helped me most through my failures? Grace.
Grace for myself, those around me and also grace for the time I needed to achieve all that was ahead. Grace is so important and now I focus on it daily. I include it in my core values for my business and heavily in my personal life.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
Social Media is a magical tool if you let it be. I was hoping to visit a specific space in New Orleans for months and thought I would visit on a quick trip I had. I had no plans to meet anyone so did the unthkinkable… I posted on my twitter where I would be ahead of time having drinks and invited anyone to join me. I honestly didn’t think anyone really would.
But to my surprise it was my future business partner. We shared drinks, laughs and plans for all of our future endeavors we were personally perusing. We had no idea we would later help each other business wise but I’m always so grateful for that gutsy, random post. Safe? No. But it was worth the risk. Isn’t that all what business is anyways?
