We recently connected with Shade Onenese and have shared our conversation below.
Shade, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My great grandmother is my hero. She definitely pushed me to go after what I wanted. I’ve always been interested in skincare but was so hesitant on pursuing my career as an esthetician just from hearing “oh Esthetician don’t make as much money” or “what is an esthetician? All you do is facials?” When In reality I absolutely love being an esthetician helping others build their confidence and be more comfortable in their own skin. I became an esthetician essentially to learn more about my own skin concerns dealing with breakout and hyperpigmentation in middle school. My great grandmother not only pushed me to go to esthetician but she also pushed me to further my career and to not settle. So I started medical school to further my career as an esthetician more so on the medical side. and I’m so excited for what’s next for me, my business and my clients.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Shade and I am 23 years old. I became a licensed esthetician in 2021. My passion has always been skincare maybe even a skincare junkie I should say. My main skincare concern was my hyperpigmentation in middle school and highschool. I tried everything not knowing what was working and what was actually my skin concerns worse. So I started esthetician school to not only help me but others as well. I started my business serenesthetics in 2022 mainly focusing on facials and bodywaxing. One thing I think that sets me part from everyone else is the relationship I build with my clients. I want every client who comes into my space to feel comfortable like they’re at home and secure enough to express to me their concerns with their skin. I also take pride in really educating my clients on products and keeping up with their monthly facials.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is one of your biggest ways to promote your business especially reels. People love to see before and after results or even your day of being a esthetician. Get in the hang of taking pics , videos and coming up with different creative ways of promoting your business. Even business cards , brochures etc yes you’re spending money but you will make that money right back because you’re gaining clientele! Take that risk and put yourself out there.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth, prebooking and educating your client on the importance of keeping up with their monthly facials.
