We recently connected with Shadasia ‘Shay The CEO’ George and have shared our conversation below.
Shadasia ‘Shay The CEO’, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
Th best investment I mad as a business owner is my assistant. She really keeps everything together and I have someone to discuss real relevant business with.
She first reached out to me in a group on FB. At the time I knew I needed an assistant but didn’t know if I could afford it or what to expect. It got to the point in my business where we were so busy we were losing appointments because I didn’t have time to keep up.
The day she started I felt the stress leaving me. In the first week she helped make what I had to pay her and then some. 2 years later she’s still my #1 team player. She is the best thing to happen to my business and not just in terms of being an assistant but most importantly in who she is as a person and what she contributes. I could never thank her enough.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
2 Bees And A Broom is a residential cleaning company and we specialize in recurring cleans. I got started when a friend of mine was looking for a cleaning service but couldn’t find anything that really fit her needs. I decided to work for a local cleaning service for professional experience. Working there I saw all the reason why my friend couldn’t find hat she was looking for. Those were many of the things I changed to cater more to our clients needs. Many of our clients come to us after trying other cleaning companies and immediately fall in love with our attention to detail and customer service. The 2 Bees And A Broom Standard is something to be experienced.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The staffing shortage after the COVID-19 Pandemic was the hardest point in my business. We were on a steady fast track. We were preparing to start franchising and it delayed a few things. To pivot we switched from Independent Contractors to employees to be able to offer benefits, we raised the pay, offered gas reimbursement among other benefits and most importantly changed our hiring process to be more selective.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
