Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shacola Thompson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shacola, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy will have a lasting impact on the world. I would love for people to look back on my life journey and feel a sense of empowerment and see that you can literally be anything you want to be regardless of the trials and tribulations in your way. Living out my passion creates contentment in my life. As a Producer, I’m able to share compelling stories and give the next generation of filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their talents. I want to be remembered by my resilience and faith of God.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, my side hustle has turned into a business and career path. Initially, I began as an assistant for a Film Director who taught me about the film industry. While working with him we created several film projects. My milestones was a project entitled “Detention Day” which was my first film that we filmed in Detroit, Michigan about 12 high school students with nothing in common, faced with spending a Saturday detention together in their high school cafeteria. At first, they argue and hate each other. However, after being stuck together for several hours they begin to reveal their problems, fears, secrets, and deepest emotions.
I started producing films as a hobby, that later transitioned into a side-hustle. However, i feel like if you are doing something you love and passionate about it’s not considered work. I decided to start a business called Cola Limited Production, which is a production company. My business started to scale up after I produced my first film which took a couple of years to complete.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a filmmaker is that you can see your projects come to life, from inception to completion. This is the most satisfying process of filmmaking. It’s fascinating to me that I can read a script, visualize the scenes then begin hiring key characters and production crew members to create the help final film.
