We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sha Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sha , thanks for joining us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
One of the most valuable lessons I learned in my career came from my time working in healthcare, particularly with the geriatric population. I learned that a truly positive work environment stems from having a team that feels genuinely valued and respected. Being around people who may be in the last stages of their lives taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and, most of all, the need to lead with compassion.
I remember one particular day when a nurse on our team came to me, feeling overwhelmed and burned out. Instead of focusing on the logistical or practical side of the issue, I made it a point to listen to her, understand what she needed, and find ways to support her personally. We adjusted her workload and gave her the flexibility to manage her personal responsibilities as well. This small act of consideration had a domino effect; she began to thrive, and the team’s morale rose as others saw that their well-being was our priority.
From that experience, I realized that happy employees naturally create a positive and caring environment, which is essential in healthcare, especially when working with elderly patients. Being proactive—addressing small concerns before they turn into larger issues—helps me create a supportive, resilient team. I strive to be the kind of boss I’d want to work for, which means leading with empathy, staying ahead of potential challenges, and fostering a culture where everyone feels seen and appreciated. When the staff feels secure and empowered, that energy transfers to the patients, creating a healthier, happier space for everyone.
Sha , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I actually began my journey in healthcare, working closely with patients and seeing firsthand the dedication and sacrifices made by nurses and other healthcare professionals. Over the years, I watched the industry change in ways that were deeply disheartening. Nurses, including myself and colleagues, were working longer hours with limited resources, often underpaid, and constantly at risk of burnout. I realized that while we were dedicated to helping others, we were missing out on experiencing the rewarding side of healthcare—the part where we could see clients genuinely happy and thriving.
This inspired me to transition into a field where I could still make a positive impact on people’s well-being, but from a place of empowerment and self-care. I wanted to bring the joyful, restorative side of healthcare back into my work, and body sculpting and wellness treatments became the perfect avenue. In many ways, what I offer is a form of self-care. It’s about giving clients the chance to feel confident, to treat themselves, and to see real transformations that come from a place of nurturing rather than stress.
In my practice, I provide noninvasive treatments that allow people to look and feel their best without the intensity and exhaustion often associated with traditional healthcare. Whether it’s Liquid Lipo to help someone finally achieve a stubborn goal or a training program for someone seeking a fresh start in a positive industry, my focus is on creating a truly fulfilling experience for both clients and students. I believe self-care is essential, and my goal is to help each person experience that through an uplifting, positive, and supportive approach.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that working harder always meant better results. In healthcare, the mentality was often that you just push through, no matter the hours or the workload, even if it came at the expense of your well-being. I thought that if I just kept working harder, things would improve—but I ended up on a path to burnout, constantly exhausted and, at times, feeling undervalued.
The turning point for me came during a period where I noticed that I was losing my passion. I was so focused on getting through long shifts and managing endless demands that I wasn’t able to actually connect with patients or even take pride in the work I was doing. That’s when I realized that I needed to make a change and rethink what success looked like for me.
When I transitioned into body sculpting and wellness, I began to see the impact of approaching work differently. I learned that success isn’t about being overworked—it’s about being balanced, present, and passionate about what you’re doing. Now, I make a point to prioritize my well-being and encourage my team to do the same. We’re focused on creating a positive experience not just for clients, but for ourselves as professionals.
By unlearning the “work harder, not smarter” mentality, I’ve been able to build a business that thrives on energy, compassion, and true connection with clients. This shift in mindset has helped me provide a service that is more fulfilling for both my clients and myself, allowing me to finally enjoy a career that feels purposeful without the burnout.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building my reputation within the beauty and wellness market has really come down to two things: authenticity and consistency. When I first entered this industry, I brought with me a healthcare background, where empathy and truly listening to clients were essential. I knew that if I wanted to stand out, I needed to carry those values over to my new path. I wanted each client to feel seen and valued, and I think that authentic approach set me apart.
Another factor has been consistency—not just in delivering quality results, but in staying committed to my clients’ journeys and supporting them long-term. In an industry where trends and products change rapidly, it’s easy to focus on the latest thing, but I’ve made it a priority to stick to my core values of client care, safety, and integrity. This means not only offering the best treatments but also educating clients and addressing their specific needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
I also believe that the way I prioritize self-care and positive transformation resonates with clients who may feel stressed or discouraged in their own lives. Many of them are drawn to my practice because they feel it’s a space where they can focus on themselves without judgment, where their goals matter. In an industry that can sometimes feel superficial, I’ve worked hard to create an environment that feels safe, supportive, and uplifting.
Ultimately, I think it’s the combination of authenticity, a client-centered approach, and genuine care that’s helped me build a solid reputation. Clients trust that I’m here for their long-term well-being, and they know that my commitment to them goes beyond a single appointment. They feel that I truly understand their journey and want the best for them, and that trust is the foundation of everything I do.
