We were lucky to catch up with Sha Blackburn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. So, we’d appreciate if you could open up about your growth story and the nitty, gritty details that went into scaling up.
I am a solopreneur, my own brand. My business started as a hobby. When I first told my parents I wanted to be a professional psychic, I had just had my palm read at the tender age of 7 or 8 years old, and I knew I wanted to be a “gypsy fortuneteller”! My dad told me that would be fine as a hobby, but I would still need to have a career working for some type of corporation that would “take care of me” and provide me with health insurance and a steady salary. In my teen years, I started to read cards for friends and neighbors. I knew this was going to be the path of my life’s work.
I started looking for fairs where I could go and read cards as soon as I had my own car. My first business cards were hand drawn, as needed, on 3×5 index cards! I vividly remember the first time I read for a stranger at an event, I was so nervous right until I started speaking. The words and energy just flowed effortlessly and that stranger became a client, she asked for a business card, and scheduled a session with me for a month later! I knew that this was what I needed to be doing.
Then came college, a job, a wedding, a baby. Through those years, my business was still a hobby, but it was my passion, my retirement plan, my hopes and dreams.
When opportunity knocks, you are as prepared as you need to be to take a leap of faith.
When I got divorced, I also became a single mom. I needed to find a way to infuse our life with more cash, but just didn’t want to try and squeeze in a regimented part time job. I made the decision to start marketing myself as much as I could by going to psychic fairs and other events, offering to do readings at house parties and in bar-rooms. Through these efforts I built my clientelle.
I started to realize that this was my chance to really create a business that would sustain me. I began reaching out to new age stores in my area, actively looking for psychic fairs, craft fairs, and any other event that may be interested in having “The LoonWitch” offering readings at their event. I was pleasantly surprised at how many places accepted me, and began to create a mailing list, more professional looking business cards, and updating my bio and photos.
I received an opportunity to be a guest on a radio show, and I took it. They wanted me to offer free readings during their morning drive segment. This one opportunity turned into over a decade of monthly guest spots on the show. Being on the most popular morning FM radio show in the area boosted my visibility and increased my client list.
With that under my belt, I pushed myself further outside my comfort zone and reached out to larger events and making the decision to put down some roots. I opened my first brick and mortar shop in 2008. Though I had been in business for over a decade already, that was the scale of a hobby and I wanted more. I wanted to manifest and build this into my full time career.
I did this by accepting any offer that seemed to expand my reputation and expertise. I built my first website, then had it rebuilt by a friend, and in 2024 I finally stepped into enough financial stability to hire a professional to rebrand and create a new and very beautiful website that highlights who I am and my LoonWitch brand!
I offer readings all over the world, and currently have clients in 19 countries!
I continue to expand and am currently working on my first evergreen program which will appear on my website in 2025. I am also writing a book that I hope to publish soon after the launch of my evergreen program.
Pushing yourself outside your comfort zone is vital when you are an entrepreneur. No matter how scared or shy you may feel, no matter how intimidating others in your field with bigger personalities may be, you will never know what you can do until you pursue your dream as if it is the food that will sustain you.
I know it’s tough. There are always going to be people who will nay-say, or tell you how many people are out there doing the exact same thing that you want to do. But, at the end of the day, they say those things because they are jealous, or afraid. They know that they would never do this for themselves, and they don’t understand why you would. Don’t let other people’s fear of success become your fear of success.
I believe in myself. No one reads the cards the way I do. I am unique in my approach and personality. Each year I prove to myself that I create the life that I have always imagined.
I hope that this article will inspire you to do the same.
Sha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It’s important to note that I continue to educate myself by taking classes every year on things that interest me so that I can fine tune skills that I already have and be open to new skills that will present themselves by being open minded and open hearted.
I am proud to say that I have often been told that I am “scarily accurate”. My style of reading and healing will bring you to the place where you can identify the things that you want to change and heal within yourself in order to create your own best life. I am an optimist. Sometimes maddingly so.
I want my clients to be successful and happy in their endeavors. I want them to find their way out from the darkness that they may feel.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In my business there are a few layers of reputation building. The first of course is building the trust with my one on one clients. I have a reputation of being honest and insightful. My clients often tell me that when I am working with them, even in an event setting, they always feel that I give them 100% of my attention.
Customer service is a big part of any service based business. While I can say that the customer really isn’t always right, good customer service isn’t based on fawning over your customers or giving in to every demand. It is about setting healthy boundaries between the business and the client, making sure that the client feels cared for and heard. The most important part of customer service is mutual respect.
I do not allow clients to book readings more often than once a month. Though there are many people who would get readings more frequently, I know that allowing this could create an unhealthy dependency on readings. This is a boundary that I set many years ago to maintain a healthy relationship with all of my clients.
Integrity and honesty are also vital components of good customer service. I display my certificates of achievement, education, and licensure clearly in my office for anyone to see. I am open about what my capabilities are, and make no guarantees to anyone. I remind my clients that the information recieved in a reading is not set in stone, and is subject to change by all the moving parts of life.
Often, I have asked myself how I would wish to be treated in a tough situation, then I follow the golden rule of treating others as I would wish to be treated myself.
The next layer of reputation is business to business. I often travel to events, other shops and wellness centers as a guest reader or teacher. I have an excellent reputation as an organized and professional person. Having built this reputation by being interactive with the organizers and business owners. I show up on time and am fully prepared. When something changes or happens that is unplanned, I roll with the punches and do my best to sort out any mishaps.
I make sure that I promote my attendance at other businesses and events prior to the event dates. Engagement on social media always shows support for the businesses that I am aligned with, and my followers always know where they can find me. I do my best to follow up after events and share my gratitude to those who work hard to put these events on.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
In my business I work with people one on one to provide them guidance, emotional support, and insight to the patterns in their life that trouble them. When I see the light in their eyes as they have an ah-ha moment for themselves, it lights me up.
Many people get tired after a day of doing readings and interacting with so many varied people. For me, each session with a client is like a shot of espresso.
My true goal that continues to drive me is to educate and help guide as many people as possible to create a positive and drama free life. I see that happening each day, one client at a time, they learn that they can achieve the goals that they set for themselves. They can live happily, and are responsible for their own choices and the consequences of those choices.
I hope to show people that we share more things in common than we have differences, and that love and laughter are the most powerful healing tools that we have. I believe that sharing my skills and knowledge with others helps me to live my own best life.
