Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Séydou. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Séydou, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Ever since I was young, my hideaway from the world would be to create things other people couldn’t reach. I’ve always found magic in starting something from scratch or retelling a story that means so much to people. Starting a career in the arts is one of the most significant risks I have taken so far in my 21 years. The arts is a far-fetched dream when it comes to my family, and being able to break out and try it is a tremendous risk. When you love something so much, the risk of failure isn’t the scary part. The frightening part is wishing you would have taken the risk to pursue what you love.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am one of four children that come from Malian parents. I grew up in Marietta, Georgia. My craft and I have always been a thing, but until recently, I have developed the initiative to pursue the film industry head-on. For my clothing brand, I started the business in 2019 and grew from selling only tees to all things streetwear fashion. Rather than allowing my brand to fall into fast fashion, I drew back on the number of items we produced and found that quality over quantity matters. I pride our brand on making clothing that has a resonating message attached to it. The message we go by is ” The real version lasts longer.” This message also connects to my work in film because what we do as artists is expose the truth. Our job is to come as close as we can to mirroring our characters to the world outside. Having my clothing brand and film work live in the same world is a blessing in disguise.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
Working on significant projects with great people is the most rewarding aspect of being an artist. Being able to work on great projects and tell incredibly relatable stories is why I chose to do this. Being able to express myself through my characters, then allowing the world to see and relate to my characters is an incredible feeling.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
The goal for me is to work on great projects with even better people. Telling stories that connect to the real world is why I do this work. If I can continue to tell these stories, my goals will be met. I have recently signed with the leading talent agency, People Store.
