We recently connected with Seyan Washoma and have shared our conversation below.
Seyan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
As a self-taught artist, I decided this year in February that I would take a risk and host my very own first sip and paint event! I personally love to paint, draw, or do anything involving arts and crafts! I’ve attended at least three sip and paint events hosted by others, and one day, I thought to myself, “If they can do it, why can’t I?” I began calling all of my friends and family and telling them about my huge ideas, including prizes, fun games, food menus, and drink menus as well. I began to create a flyer for my event and promote the event to those around me. I had about a month to prepare without much knowledge but what I did have was a big heart with big dreams. I created a list of supplies I might need and started to order all of my supplies and looking for a venue! I ended up securing the venue three days before the event and alerted everyone of where it would take place. I was insanely nervous because I had never hosted a large event and I haven’t instructed a painting course before, but I knew I could do it. The big day, February 23rd, comes and my mind is everywhere! My biggest worry is that I just want everyone to have fun and I want everything to go according to plan! The venue turned out to be the perfect size, allowing me to teach all the attendees how to paint, blend colors, and understand the importance of art and self-expression. I had the opportunity to decorate the venue to my liking and set up beautiful canvases, easels, brushes, paint colors, and more! Overall, the event was a huge success! It lasted about four hours and featured an amazing food menu, a bartender with a cocktail list, and a fun game of musical chairs, with the winner taking home some prizes. People left super excited for part two! I took this risk because of my deep passion for art, my love for teaching others about it, and my desire to keep learning and proving to myself that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Seyan, and I’m originally from Zimbabwe. My passion for art began when I was just three years old, and it has been a central part of my life ever since. I’ve always had an outgoing and bubbly personality, and this naturally drew me toward creative expression and sharing that joy with others. I’ve been coloring and painting since I was three, and in 2022, I began hosting small sip and paint events to bring people together through art. This past February, I took a big leap and hosted my first large sip and paint event, which was a huge success! It allowed me to teach attendees how to paint, blend colors, and explore their own unique creativity. In addition to my work with art, I also write and run a blog called Miracles for the Mind, which focuses on psychology, self-help, and mental wellness. My blog highlights the powerful connection between art and healing, including the benefits of art therapy. I believe that everyone deserves to take up space in this world, and my work aims to inspire self-love, creativity, and emotional well-being. What sets me apart is my deep passion for creating spaces where people can feel empowered and inspired. Whether it’s through hosting art events, creating custom products, or sharing insightful content on my blog, my goal is to encourage others to embrace their creative side and focus on mental wellness. I’m most proud of the impact my art and writing have had on others, and the main thing I want potential clients and followers to know is that my brand, Miracles for the Mind, is here to remind you that you are loved, valued, and capable of achieving amazing things. If you’re looking to connect with your artistic side or want to dive deeper into personal growth, I’m here to guide you on that journey!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that I needed to be perfect to share my work or host an art sip and paint event. I used to think that every detail had to be flawless for my efforts to be worthwhile or accepted. Through my journey, I learned that making mistakes and taking risks are essential parts of the creative process. Constantly comparing myself to other creators made me realize that embracing imperfections and understanding that being unique is crucial to authenticity has been liberating. Being different is what makes us stand out and connect more deeply with others.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, my goal is to inspire others to tap into their creative potential and to educate them about the history of art and its many benefits. I aim to create a supportive community where people can enjoy themselves, connect with others, and forge new friendships through artistic expression. By sharing my passion for art and teaching its significance, I hope to foster a space where creativity thrives and people can experience the joy of making art together.
