We were lucky to catch up with Sevyhnn Hendrix recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sevyhnn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
A lot of times you will have many ideas. The main thing you have to focus on in this phase is getting from conception to execution. When I started working on music professionally, I had to make myself fully aware, that because this was no longer just a hobby, goal focused and intentional movements were crucial to my survival as each moment could essentially date me as an artist. So it started like this, simply asking myself was I going to take this serious and did I want others to take me serious as a result. Of course since we’re here the answer was yes, but it has required many sacrifices along the way. You sacrifice the fun, the social life, events, and trips for studio time, writing sessions, and performances. And that’s something best considered before you get too heavy into it. that way you don’t disappoint yourself later on down the line when you may disappoint others also. Then, DO IT! Don’t allow anything to get you into analysis paralysis or 5, 10, 15 years will pass you by and you’re still trying to figure it out.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
“A familiar sound with a message.” This was the simple yet pointed answer when Kiing VII was asked to describe his music. He is no stranger to Atlanta in any shape or to the music scene either. So it comes as no surprise that his straight to the point mentality is focused on the task at hand. VII (7) has been a part of many great movements that are cultural staples to the city dating back to 2002.
Starting out in music at a very early age, inspired by his gospel jazz singing mother, he has always had a passion for music. That passion developed when he began making his own beats at school in a trailer when no one was looking. This turned his passion into a mission and ever since he hasn’t turned back.
VII has shared stages with T.I. , Lil Jon, Scrappy, and Atlanta Gospel legend Canton Jones on several occasions. He is committed to his craft and adding life and hope to the music he creates. With heavy bass, hard hitting drums and mesmerizing melodies, you are guaranteed to be in for a treat while enjoying the hypnotizing southern dialect VII brings.

Yes, I produce, engineer, write, mix, and master. I also do all of the graphics for all of the marketing and branding for myself. Is it a lot… YESSS!!! But one thing I have learned through it all is balance and seasons and fully embracing each opportunity to experience them all. There have been MANY failures but what I always encourage people to do is always make each failure a chance to fall forward. Take every loss as a lesson and every opponent as an opportunity, and you will come out on top!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is always tricky because to a degree you’re at someone else’s mercy when it comes to how you reach your audience. But remember first you get out of it what you put into it. Buying followers is probably the worse thing you can do because it just creates vanity metrics that won’t convert to sales or results you need when you begin to market. Spend that money on ads to your target audience and grow your following that way. Your brand has to be stronger than the algorithm or you will think people are seeing you posting and they really aren’t.
