We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sevahna Anderson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sevahna below.
Sevahna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
For the last seventeen years I have worked in the Beauty and Fragrance Industry. I have worked for brands like Jo Malone London and stores like Nordstrom for ten of them. I’m 2019 after talking and researching the art of candle making and fragrances, I decided to give it a shot. I poured my first candles and they were terribly done. They cracked, the wax to oil ratio was off, the wicks were not great. I thought, come on….. you can do this. And if you are good at it, maybe this is your path?
I was mentally and physically exhausted from the unrealistic expectations of the high end retail life. Your work is 24/7 with your clients plus there is the never ending events and “did you open a credit card?”
I figured it out and the magic just started to take on its own personality in my candles.
2020 came and it really put things into perspective for me as I was making more candles and people wanted to buy them! All my friends were sooo supportive of me running in this direction. I was selling to friends and then their friends all by word of mouth. And all of this was in my little kitchen in Ocean Beach.
When I found out I was pregnant I put everything on pause to take care of my mental health. Working in retail as a Manager, pregnant and the Holidays is where I decided that I would make this business work no matter what when I have my baby. I never wanted to feel trapped again.
After my leave was up, I took the risk to not go back. To give up my retail career to be a dedicated Mother and make some rad, magical shit.
I took the risk to prove to myself that I AM worthy of making my dream come true. I took the risk to share with my son someday that you have to wake up and follow your dreams and your heart. I know there are a million candle makers out there but they are not me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I was that little girl that played with flowers and rain water, making my own perfumes and potions. I have loved scent for as long as I can remember. It’s personal, it’s complex, it’s memory. I studied with the Fragrance Foundation and got my certification as a Fragrance Specialist. Working at Nordstroms and Jo Malone London, I was exposed to amazing trainers and adopted a special attention to details of fragrance.
I created Wolfe + Juniper to be an extension of my attention to detail I wanted to create something personal and not a mass produced smelling candle. I wanted to make you think, to take you to another world, to remind you of something beautiful. My candles are made with magic and love. Every batch is small to ensure the best quality.
Every batch is poured late at night after my baby is asleep or he’s strapped to my chest haha.
What sets me a part is my uniqueness. From the names of each candle to their particular notes. Each has an individual story. And a little witchy flair. Every candle is made with 100% soy wax. It’s clean and safe burning. My wicks are cotton, no chemicals here. I use high quality, environmentally friendly products. I’m a Mom and I refuse to have anything that can do harm to my little guy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is the look on a persons face when they smell my candles. It’s in that moment that I know I did something right. I got their attention! I get to create a relationship with that client and share my story. And every time they walk away saying that they learned something…. Is such a huge win!

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to create unique, strange and unusual products. Because I myself am strange and unusual haha. I really want to keep creating candles where you can smell the magic. I will continue to put myself out there to set an example to my son to follow your dreams. And scent is sooo powerful. I want to make the world smell better.
