We recently connected with Seun Bewaji and have shared our conversation below.
Seun, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Ever since I was a teenager I was interested in Art. I remember I always loved sketching. When I started taking classes at my community college, I enrolled in many art classes to improve my skills with making art. I started from taking sketch drawing classes, 2D Dimensional Design, and Digital art. Also. I’ve directed some short films on YouTube. Film is something I’m passionate about. That’s my way of creating art. I would always write a script and come up with characters in my head that I found would be interesting. Art is about creating stories that are beyond your imagination.

Seun, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m 27 years old. I’m an art/animation major at Montgomery College. I’m an actor. I’ve worked on a bunch of short films. Networking with directors, artists, authors helped me wanted to get into the industry. It gave me a clear view of what to expect in the industry. I have learned it’s about what you know, it’s about who you know. I go to as many film festivals as I can to meet with directors. I learn from their side of the story. I ask them how they got into the industry. I ask them advice of how I can improve to be a filmmaker/ actor. What sets me apart of me from others is I have been rejected multiple times. I don’t take rejection personally. Most people quit. I don’t! I just ask myself, what can I learn next time so I don’t make the same mistake? How can I improve myself as an actor? Giving up is never an option for me. When I acted in a short film that filmed in Poolesville, MD. I had a shot of seeing myself act in a movie theater premiered at the AFI. I was so proud of myself. I felt like I was actually putting my dreams into action. It’s good to have a dream. But I would tell people what’s the point of having a dream if you’re not going to take action. Taking action is the first step into starting your career.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to inspire others. I want people to feel like no dream is too big or too small. I want people to understand there’s absolutely nothing you can’t do. Take risks. Don’t play it too safe. Life is filled with unlimited opportunities. You never know when that opportunity may come around, you might as well take advantage of it. I remember one day I watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. There’s this one quote that stuck with me. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I was a kid, I used to be afraid of almost nearly anything. I mean, I had a few friends. But I wasn’t the “cool kid.” I used to be so afraid to speak in public. It would terrify me to my core. I just felt like I wasn’t apart of something bigger than myself. I felt alone. But when I reached my 20’s, a lot has changed. I’m not afraid to talk to people. I feel more confident to meet people. That’s also helped me professionally. I met people that have connections in the film industry. So that taught me a lesson that hey, it doesn’t hurt to just introduce yourself. You never know how that person can help you. They could end up find connections in the field you’re looking for.
