Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Setitra McCain. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Setitra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
It all started during covid. I had to temporarily close down my green cleaning services to homeschool my children. During that time I couldn’t stand being at home and not doing some work to help out, I took some time to really discover myself and really dig deep into what it is I’m most passionate about, and what I enjoy doing. After a few weeks of self-discovery, I realize fashion, beauty and sharing what I love, and connecting with new people have always been a big part of my personality. I thought about how much I used to love it when my mom got ready for the day and did her hair and makeup, to me she is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. I LOVED her style and couldn’t wait until I was old enough to pick out my own things. I also reflected on what I enjoyed most in my childhood. When I was a child I would visit my cousins a LOT, and we didn’t play with dolls. In fact, I was never a fan of dolls, I didn’t play with them at all. But we did like to play dress up and we would pretend to be supermodels. We would model clothes down a long blanket on the floor, with music on, or sometimes put on our own talent shows. We had a lot of fun! The same goes for my late best friend. Even as an adult when I would visit her, we would change clothes at least 3x a day, go get some fun photos of us hanging around the beach, having brunch or dinner, and nightlife. Styling has always been a big part of who I am and introduced me to my closest friends, That is when I decided to create Styled by Setitra blog. I get to continue sharing my love for style, beauty, and the things that bring me joy in life. Hoping to bring some sparkle to other women’s lives.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Setitra McCain, born and raised in Lansing, MI, but now living outside of Ann Arbor, MI. I am a wife and mother and cat owner. I am a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blogger at Styled by Setitra. I graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication. I started my blogging career in August 2020, I’m very proud that I’m in an industry where I’m in the marketing field. I enjoy creating campaigns, putting together blog posts, and taking photos (I enjoy taking photos of others and products the most). I alsp enjoy learning and connecting with other people in the industry. My kids really love what I do and I think that makes me happy knowing I’m doing something they also get to enjoy.
Every week I create a new blog post on things like places to eat locally, travel reviews, what I’m wearing, makeup hauls, makeup reviews, skincare, and nails. I enjoy creating nail content the most, my audience really seems to really be into that. I am a huge fan of Pinterest, I am very active there and it is where I share my ideas and recommendations, and where you can find recent blog updates. You can find me on most social media platforms, but my website is where all my content comes together.
So far, I’ve had some amazing opportunities from working with amazing brands, like Olive and June, The Totery, Sephora, Target, Amazon, City Girl Coffee, and Detroit Social Events. For collaborations/PR please email me [email protected]

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
This is a fun job and I enjoy being gifted items but free items in exchange for free promotions don’t pay the bills. As I was building my portfolio in the first year or so, I took on a lot of gifted exchanges and it burned me out. There have been times when I wanted to quit but needed to learn how to create quality content for future paid collaborations. I had to use tools from what I already had, like my iPhone for photos. I had to learn how to take my own photos, be confident while doing so, edit, and learn video editing skills. Things weren’t easy on this journey because there was so much to learn, but I pushed through it all and I now get paid to write and create content on platforms like Pinterest and Instagram. I’m so happy I believed in myself and didn’t give up.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to help inspire women to feel confident and comfortable while navigating the world of fashion.
